The mayor of Pattaya has called for a major developmental study into the resort's CCTV provision.

Following the completion of the study city hall will decide on the next course of action.

Sophon Cable TV reported on Facebook that the move was prompted by recent reports that more than 50% of the 2,027 cameras in Pattaya were broken.

They said that 100s of millions of baht had been thrown at CCTV in Pattaya over the years in a number of failed projects.

Sontaya Khunpluem highlighted that one of the main issues was that after contracts for agreed maintenance schedules with private companies expired the cameras started to break down.

Originally there were assurances that 95% would be functional. Now it is under half.

Maybe, just maybe, those maintenance contracts need to be renewed, or at least put out to tender close to their expiry.  Not the big saving someone thought when they were not renewed

Should have had the contracts renewed back when his little Brother was Mayor.

????Hey Ting Tong Mayor!  Save the money I don't want to use the word S but you don't need to do any type of study.

First you fix the cameras that aren't working and find out how many was never hook up, second you go to the guy who was giving the task of selecting the cameras when the contract was sign also check his bank book for the same period. Then find the person who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. Without doing the study you will find that both should be fired but of course you most likely don't have the power and are just as much the problem as to why they don't work!

Same every year for years and years..it seems like rocket science to replace broken cameras and fix broken cables1392855252_IMG_20150209_130538(Medium).jpg.d8c6dc650a6b5d0885cc50996900fa01.jpg.

The problem is, the cameras that don't work keep changing locations, based on where the latest crime occurred.

If that's the case, later when they're caught out the story will change to the routers being faulty instead of the cameras (or the fibre optic cable as claimed the first time, suddenly not mentioned in this article).

It will then be that some of the routers were faulty and the technicians kept swapping good circuits and bad, giving the impression it was the cameras.

I can stay one step ahead with the lies excuses.

The very act of not renewing possibly caused further failures and a lot of home installations!
