webfact Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 CCTV in Pattaya: Mayor calls for major study after 50% of cameras don't work Picture: Sophon Cable TV The mayor of Pattaya has called for a major developmental study into the resort's CCTV provision. Following the completion of the study city hall will decide on the next course of action. Sophon Cable TV reported on Facebook that the move was prompted by recent reports that more than 50% of the 2,027 cameras in Pattaya were broken. They said that 100s of millions of baht had been thrown at CCTV in Pattaya over the years in a number of failed projects. Sontaya Khunpluem highlighted that one of the main issues was that after contracts for agreed maintenance schedules with private companies expired the cameras started to break down. Originally there were assurances that 95% would be functional. Now it is under half. Popular Post jvs Posted August 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2020 I am not surprised at all,mai pen rai. Change your attitude Thailand if you want to be a progressive country. No doubt all of these projects are a nice little earner for some people. Also a lot of cameras seem to break just before a crime is commited 7

No need for that: Only last week it was the "fibre optic cables near to mains electricity supplies" that were being blamed - erroneous as that is. 1 2

Maybe, just maybe, those maintenance contracts need to be renewed, or at least put out to tender close to their expiry. Not the big saving someone thought when they were not renewed. 5

Or even, not ruling out any conspiracy theory: Perhaps the company with the terminated maintenance contract 'helped' some of the cameras to fail, once they released their contract wasn't being renewed? 3 1
Popular Post Bender Rodriguez Posted August 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2020 would be fun to know if most are fake or monthly payments are made, for the "maintenance" contract of the fake or broken camera's 3 1

Popular Post PETERTHEEATER Posted August 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2020 A large number of cameras installed were dummies like the municipal operators. They probably have dimmer switches installed too???????????? 1 3

ChipButty Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I think they should check to see if the cables haven't been ripped out at time like this would get a good weigh in 1 1
Oldie Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 They should put there new cameras so that they can find out why the old cameras don't work... 2

thailand49 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 ????Hey Ting Tong Mayor! Save the money I don't want to use the word S but you don't need to do any type of study. First you fix the cameras that aren't working and find out how many was never hook up, second you go to the guy who was giving the task of selecting the cameras when the contract was sign also check his bank book for the same period. Then find the person who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. Without doing the study you will find that both should be fired but of course you most likely don't have the power and are just as much the problem as to why they don't work! 1
Popular Post richard_smith237 Posted August 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2020 The result of graft - Plain and simple. This is not a new story - the ’traffic cams’ not working, or rather, the traffic cams not even being installed in the housing is old news. But... the speeding cameras work !!! - my Wife had had two speeding tickets for 128kmh in the past week !!!! (on the expressway which has a 120kmh limit). ------------- My Wife (in her car) was nearly hit by a bus jumping the lights. She called Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, straight away. Gave them the location asked them to check the footage of the nearby camera. The response was that the camera was not working. My Wife asked ‘what would’ve happened had the bus hit me’ the answer, you may have been killed !!!! That was it... the a$$hattery is inherent through every single facet of society, graft is everywhere, no one cares because no one is ever held responsible. 3

Peabody Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 The problem is, the cameras that don't work keep changing locations, based on where the latest crime occurred. 1

If that's the case, later when they're caught out the story will change to the routers being faulty instead of the cameras (or the fibre optic cable as claimed the first time, suddenly not mentioned in this article). It will then be that some of the routers were faulty and the technicians kept swapping good circuits and bad, giving the impression it was the cameras. I can stay one step ahead with the lies excuses.

samsensam Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 he's annoyed it's as many as 50%, he could have received a far bigger backhander if only 10% were operational.
