Bedridden and poor old man lashes out at authorities after arrest for growing medicinal ganja

A poor and bedridden 79 year old man in Thailand's north east has hit out at his local authority and the police after his son-in-law was arrested.

Two large marihuana plants were found in a kitchen garden next to the house.

Thongbor Kamonwiboon told reporters that he planted and looked after the ganja that he was boiling up to make tea to treat many medical conditions he suffers from.

When reporters arrived at the house in Chiang Mai sub-district of Roi-Et the police were in the process of arresting Thongbor's son-in-law Phairot Thipbunchu, 39.

Local policeman Lt-Col Songsak Bunthai said that police were obliged to act after being called in by the Phochai local authority who found the plants.

Not acting in the case could lead the police to be charged with dereliction of duty.

Thongbor told Daily News that he was bedridden for eight years with diabetes, high blood pressure, dietary problems and exhaustion.

Visits to hospitals and doctors had all failed to make him feel better but when he got some dried ganja from another person and boiled it up to make tea he felt much better.

He was finally able to leave his bed and get on with his life.

He said that given the circumstances of the local authority and the police coming round, he let his son-in-law carry the can for the two plants.

The press said they were about two meters high and were uprooted and taken away as evidence.

Thongbor said he was furious with the authorities for acting in this way. Making tea from ganja was great for his health.

Others in the area were growing plenty of ganja and smoking it for recreational means - why weren't the cops arresting them, he demanded.

A relative also chimed in that this was harassment of the poor for no good reason. The authorities should spend their time arresting people for serious drug misuse, not this.

Besides poor people treating themselves in this way kept them out of hospitals leading to less pressure on the health system.

Thaivisa notes that the country is on the verge of making it legal for private individuals to grow six marijuana plants each providing they have permission from a doctor that it is for medicinal purposes.

The law is yet to be ratified so the old man's son-in-law looks set to have to appear in court unless what the old man and his relatives see as good sense prevails and the charges are dropped.

I like drugs but not  people who use them when driving a car or motorbike.

If you are "high" how do you know if you are driving a car or a motorbike or anything else?

Or your impact on others.

Such a petty bunch of people over there at the BiB.  Have a 90 year old friend in Cambodia.   He can get easily there without hassles, and he enjoys it immensely.  Sometimes it is better to just pretend it's not there.

What happens if a doctor in your district does not agree with it , but doctors in other districts are okay with it ?

This is a problem with Thailand , laws and rules change from district to district.

not only that but the drug stays in your system for a couple of days

in Australia more people get fined for having drugs in their system

than drunk drivers.

You are asking the wrong question.

Wrong!!

It is up to each individual to ask their own questions.  There is no such thing as asking the wrong question, just giving the wrong answers.

It being detectable in the system or you being under the influence of it are 2 different things.  But basicall you like alcohol you need to wait a few hours after using drugs before you drive a car. (how many depends on many factors just like with alcohol).

Anyway being drunk and driving is as bad as high and driving.

This old man is misinformed. He should be going to his dentist and scoring his cocaine that way. Or is that a defense that only works for rich people.

I never thought that I would see the words "police" and "dereliction of duty" in the same sentence in Thailand.

This makes the difference:

Local policeman Lt-Col Songsak Bunthai said that police were obliged to act after being called in by the Phochai local authority who found the plants.

However the old man is betrayed by an angry? Thai, you know you cant spread this around in word.

You can not say to a fellow Thai, hey this works and show the plants.

You seem to have lost your ability to consider others well-being and you have no idea what you are talking about either.

I assume you must have been looking in the mirror when you wrote that claptrap above.  You have absolutely no knowledge of my considerations of others nor do you know anything about what subjects I have knowledge of.
