Opening a Bank Account in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I'm 55 years old, entered on a tourist visa back in March, extended by a month, and now on Amnesty. I want to open a bank account and will appreciate your recommendations as to friendly branches to my status...

In years past the Bangkok Bank Branch opposite top of Soi 6 was a favourite for new accounts

No idea if still they are but worth a visit

Most banks no longer open accounts for foreigners on a tourist visa...but it never hurts to ask. As mentioned, in the past, Bangkok Bank was known as the most "flexible" when it came to accounts for foreigners but I don't know if this is still the case.

Thank you. Does "top of soi 6" means beach road or 2nd road side?

There is a branch on the Second Road end...east side of road. Policies can differ by branch too (it's Thailand) so if turned down by one brance go to another (or a different bank). As also mentioned, most banks will also try to up-sell you on some insurance as well (especially if you want an ATM card with your account). You may decline this insurance and just get an "ordinary" ATM card, which should cost no more than B 200-300 per year (they aren't free...again it's Thailand).

I am with Kasikorn on Klang, half way between 2nd Rd and Soi Buakao. Take your passport and proof of address.

They've turned farang unfriendly, i opened one with them years ago, wouldn't recently open another one without a long stay visa, policy changed
