I have to say that statement is absolutely nonsense. While I like Filipinos and have worked with many in various countries, even some who have studied and stayed in the UK. Your statement is just simply not true. I would say provide some evidence but I know you can't. That goes for Aussies, Kiwis and Americans. they are better than Filipinos speaking and writing and they should be, as it is not the Filipinos first language. I mention it not out of any anger but out of the fact that you are talking complete rollocks, unless your interaction with Brits or any other first language users are all illiterate. I will help you out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_literacy_rate Edited September 6, 2020 by Laughing Gravy

I agree, but eventually, the Euro zone will agree on what is an acceptable risk, or what risk they can manage, including managing clusters and small outbreaks, and will allow freedom of movement. Sure, the traditional high season for Europe is finished, but Covid in 2020 has disrupted the traditional seasons. I have no doubt Spain will be in the minds of many in Europe. I did not say that so take it off as it was not me as you are quoting me. which is not correct. As for your second statement, you worked for a service that specialised in interpreting. Yes they should speak good English its their jobs. It would be like saying that more Brits speak and write better Spanish that Spaniards because you know a few people who worked at interpreting. You are talking absolute nonsense and quite frankly embarrassing yourself with that statement, and trying to use someone else's quote as mine. Some Filipinos speak and write good English but to state more do that Brits is ludicrous.

Popular Post Neeranam
I can understand Ozzies wanting to live in certain areas of Thailand but certainly not Pattya. Oz has beautiful beaches - I've been to Surfer's Paradise, great! My sister lives in Hampton, just crosses the road to Melbourne beach. Perth has great beaches. Why would anyone want to live in Pattaya?? Before I applied for Thai citizenship, I looked at Australian citizenship as it's a place I love. Compared with Pattaya, there really is only one thing that is cheaper in Pattaya. 2

Well there are a lot resident in the UK and entitled to passports who are somewhat isolated and speak another language at home.... Muslim women might be an example. And if dropped into parts of Yorkshire and Scotland one might think English is not spoken. I think his tongue in cheek remark was not 100 percent serious. Part of the reason Filipinos are employed outside of their country is English is well spoken, as with Indians.

The Covid crisis will be over before EU countries agree a combined Covid strategy between them, in my view. Countries have reverted to a self-centred approach, self preservation if you will. We have all seen country by country statistics about infections and deaths but I don't recall seeing any combined EU figures. By the same reasoning, there hasn't been a combined approach to Covid amongst ASEAN nations, nor is their likely to be. As a point of interest, there is not even a combined approach to Covid in the UK. There are very clear differences between how England and Scotland have acted, for example the Scots taking Greece off the list of safe places to travel to, whilst England didn't. (Local food prices in general ?) Taxis ? (Trains/Buses ?) Labour ? (Upright and horizontal ?) Taxes ? (Or lack thereof ?) Movies ? Coconuts (Durian/etc) ? Cost of living overall is generally cheaper here which is why so many people chose to live here rather than say, Spain. Or Australia. Or Canada. Which is why people will continue to take up residence in Thailand (and Pattaya) for years to come. Striking a balance between Cost of Living and available services (modern hospitals, decent infrastructure like power/phones/airports/etc), entertainment choices and so on. You can live cheaper in other places, but would have to put up with reduced levels and standards in things like health care.

Another reason why I don't understand why old farangs with families already would have children in LOS. They moved to LOS to enjoy LOS, and go back for a kid! Just because the Thai wife wants a kid is not, IMO, sufficient reason to have one, or more. Of course we enjoyed LOS because we made money elsewhere. LOS without money sucks big time. Same in any country, but my money went way further in LOS.

To deny a young Thai wife children of her own is a rather serious and maybe selfish decision. I go along with you fully that some 65-70 year old retired guy is really too old to start a new family... but the wife may really bring pressure to bear, particularly if she sees a sister or friend happy with a new baby. It also gives them a sense of security. Edited September 7, 2020 by jacko45k

IMO it's to anchor the ATM. If the guy has a kid with her, she knows he won't leave her when she cuts him off. I told my wife before I married her she wasn't going to have children with me, and she agreed anyway. Absolutely she should know BEFORE they get married if the guy can't or won't give her children. It would be very wrong of the guy to get married to one that wanted kids if he didn't.
