open table the reservation booking company, wouldn,t have a vested interest  by any chance?,book early to avoid disappointment, thats why i never post links.

And there is a lot more of a necessity to book tables in advance now rather than simply walking into a restaurant, so it's not a 9% increase on overall business at all.

Meaningless data.

It has already collapsed, and it started long before covid19.

No it won't totally collapse, same as airlines, the planes will be just bought by companies that know how to run a business.   Some will benefit from this "cleanup". Time to reposition yours

It really is a catch 22. I think the Thais are realizing that the GDP was grossly understated when it comes to how much tourists actually do for the economy. Wake up call!

Yeah I struggled with that too.

So German restaurants aren't doing any social distancing?

We went out for breakfast on Sunday, half the tables were blocked, so at best they could only operate at 50%.

Reservations do not equate to volume of business, so the whole premise of year on year Open Tables reservations is totally meaningless

Less than 20% of the Thai population have ever paid income tax.

It isn't the primary way the Thai government chooses to generate income.

Because it would be self incriminating to pay income tax on ill gotten gains.

If it does implode the only people i'll feel sorry for is the small thai buisinesses built on hard graft and smiles.

 Correct .

That said , i don't think the Major decision makers , give a hoot about Thai tourism ..

Given the amount they have to pay to get elected, I doubt small stuff like farang tourism looms large in their thinking once in office.

It's already imploded, anything tourist related in the tourist areas that's still open now is going to be running on cash reserves.

Inside the next 2 to 3 months these cash reserves will be depleted.

I expect to see a truly massive number of businesses close down permanently before or during November unless the situation changes very drastically.

I don't expect the overall situation to change much, if at all. It's just getting started and we haven't seen nothing yet.
