Foreign tourists travel from France to Phuket: It was a trial run and all above board, says governor

Phuket's governor and the director of the island's airport met the press yesterday after it was revealed that four French people entered the province.

The incident caused social media in the southern Thai island to explode in comment about the case.

Governor Narong Wunsew along with Thanee Chuangchu sought to allay public fears.

Narong said it was all above board. The French people had come in on their own aircraft and the foreign ministry, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and the CCSA (the Covid command center) knew all about it.

He described it as a trial run for opening up the province to foreigners.

The French people went to Alternative State Quarantine for 14 days before flying on to Cambodia.

All protocols were followed and there were no problems and no Covid-19 breach.

He reminded the public that the borders remain shut and this was only opening the door ajar as a test case. It was important to do that ahead of a wider opening up later.

He spoke of Phuket being "sick" from the devastating economic impact of the virus that has caused billions of baht to have been lost in the tourism sector.

He said Phuket needs to start opening up.

Maybe you can't flight straight to Cambodia from France or what ever place they come from! So to get access to Cambodia you need flight via Thailand. So actualy even this guys don't want land here but they have to lol

I met a Korean in a bar in Pattaya last week. He told me that he's been living here for 8 years but was worried about extending his visa after September 26th.

The four French tourists must have spent millions on room service during their quarantine.

Certainly new to Pattaya judging by the way they are mooching around.

Oh my god. Four foreigners. Transiting at the airport.

Close off the island immediately, implement 24h lockdown and testing the whole population

They must be "special envoys" from Manu 1ER.

 Some sort of PR stunt.

4 tourists...I bet the hotels and businesses are just gushing with joy ????

Here on Samui, we have Chinese, Koreans, Russians, Vietnamese - all coming here for a break away from Bangkok.

Domestic tourists are not all Thai nationals.

Oh!  DAVIS, but a French tourist of this quality is worth 10 low-end tourists

Why would you come for a 2 weeks quarantine to Thailand, and then fly off to Cambodia, for presumably another 14 days quarantine? Maybe the French just love quarantine and want to spend the rest of their lives in it?

They flew in by private jet. Could have certainly flown directly to Cambodia from France. They could have even flown directly from France to Equatorial Guinea, North Korea or Peru. It's a private plane.

You mean you don't have one? Your days are numbered, Thailand is trying to attract a better class of tourist.

"Quality tourists" ????

A Boeing 737 with only 4 French in it landed? Thats what i call luxurious.

Private jet? Ok fill up the tank again and fly to Cambodia, no need for 14 day quarantaine in Thailand.

Weird story.

Sneaky sneaky.... he may have just stepped over the line with locals.

No-one knowing they were here, where they were staying or their movements while here?

They certainly did not fly from France directly in a 737... it doesn't have anywhere near enough range for a direct flight, even flying basically empty. Many business jets do, however.

In my opinion, but this is only my opinion, there must be, like quality French toutists:
BENALLA - François de RUGY - Jean-Pierre DELEVOYE - Françoise NYSSEN.
They have time to do quarantines.
