Video: Giant King Cobra fights back! But expertise of snake catchers prevails in the end

A video showed the sterling work of the "Phithak Ngoo Muang Chan" snake catchers in Chanthaburi in the east of Thailand.

An orchard owner in Thung Benja sub-district had called the experts in to deal with a four meter long King Cobra that was standing one meter tall splaying its hood.

The men were cautious. Working in a pair one tried to grab the serpent's tail while another offered it sanctuary in a collection bucket.

It still took twenty minutes and a lot of effort before the huge snake was safely in custody and on its way to a return to nature away from people.

Magnificent animal, the King Cobra. Pretty intelligent as well. I'd prefer to admire it from a distance though.. ????

Yep, it is! I prefer it better like shoes or a handbag for the wife, though.

Any experts out there. Is this an accepted method.....?

Just surprised that if they are supposed to be "expert" snake catchers that they don't seem to have any long poles with nooses and whatever else would normally be used. Relying on a plastic tidy box and grabbing its tail seems a bit fraught to me.

Given most Thais have access to a firearm I personally would be tempted to empty a magazine into the thing.

Well whatever their choice of equipment to catch it, they showed great courage and captured it without harming it at all.  Kudos to them.

No argument there. Just thinking it is an overly dangerous way to proceed but up to them.

Up to date equipment is not part of the Thai culture...

boo boo on those who have to hide behind a gun or meekly follows their wife sporting an animal hide bag...

Next time open the lid a tad more.... otherwise a nice catch.

Would have more than a box in the way for sure ! ????????

Not enough in the budget for all the normal safety kit items and still be able too feed the family

But then you couldn't sell it to another poster to turn into handbag or shoes for his wife... Or maybe, if holes were in exactly the right place...

This isn’t wise since they are giving the snake a ramp or a platform to get higher. All it needs is to get its body on that container and it can get much higher.

if you watch Nick Chomngam they often just distract the snake whilst sneaking up from the other side and necking the snake.

Is that the same as necking a bottle of Chang ?

Got it done!  Clearly this was not their first rodeo with a King Cobra.  Bravo to them for getting it done with no harm to themselves or the animal!

Yep, rather them than me though. I don't think that King Cobras are especially aggressive snakes, but their size, speed, and potentially lethal venom make them very dangerous indeed. Apparently they feed mostly on other snakes.

A lot of new construction in this area will be flushing out a lot of the local flora and fauna, I imagine..

12 gauge bird shot x 5 should subdue it. but be careful of small shot when eating later on
