One hand on the steering wheel one on his phone: Driver has plenty of excuses and apologies

A minibus driver went to face the music at the Suphanburi department of land transport after a social media post caught him driving with one hand on the wheel and one on his phone.

This went on for well over a minute on Route 953 from Bangkok to Hankha in Chainat.

Somneuk, 57, said he had been a driver for 20 years.

He explained that he had a "small talk" device in his ear and the reason he was on the phone so long was he was having trouble contacting a relative who was due to be released from hospital.

He apologised to his passengers and promised that it would never happen again.

The DLT fined him 2,000 baht and said he had to attend an hour of training.

Training in what? Lame excuses that people actually buy?

If he had an accident when holding and looking at the phone, it would have been ,

you guessed it.............brake failure.

regards worgeordie

No word of a lie.....once saw a petrol tanker driver.....no hands on the wheel....fag in his mouth, opening a can (not sure it wasn't beer).

'an hour of training' that should do it!

this is a phone

this is the steering wheel

these are your passengers

There all done back to work Somneuk!

Hate shortens one's life, much like the distracted driver, the same type of which accounts for the 20+thousands killed on Thai roadways annually. I applaud the so-called snitches, aka the concerned public.

I was on a mini-van once from Bangkok to Nakhon Pathom a journey of about 1 hour 20 minutes, the driver was on the mobile phone the entire journey.

Supposedly a professional driver with 20 years experience.  Cell phone use while driving is nothing more than an accident waiting to happen.  Driving demands 100% of your concentration.  Add cell phone use it is already down to 50%.  Any further distraction - 33%.  Better start looking for that amulet!

Try doing that in Australia just holding your phone even if you not using it

will cost you $500 and 4 demerit points.

Get caught texting will set you back $1000 and 7 demerit points.

normal, wife says the same, the entire  journey  on the phone

Minibus? With a driving position, steering wheel and gear stick like that. How tall are mini busses? How about the metal bar on the near side? Maybe I'm missing something?

His behaviour.

The 'snitches' might just save someone's life one day,

Ever think of that, Mr Mountain?

No, probably not.

Trump supporter?

Not even a question in my opinion. His behavior and actions endangered all his passengers and others on the road.

(This isn't like the snitches regarding Covid)

More likely a Harris Biden supporter. They're the ones who are becoming like the children in China during the 1950's & 60's or Russia in the early 1900's. I believe the Hitler supporters also liked to 'tell' on their neighbors.
