U.S. President Trump and Melania test positive for COVID-19

Kudlow says Trump was doing fine and working as usual this afternoon. Just before he was rushed by helicopter to the hospital. That should tell us that he is in real trouble. There is no bigger  liar in politics than Larry. Does anyone know if Covid "expert" Doc Atlas is attending Trump?

Actually, I believe it was a podiatrist who allegedly did Fred Trump the favor in return for paying virtuallly no rent for his office.

Trump is a machine gun liar. If he thinks he can get some play out of it, he would have no qualms about doing so.. Erase a historic sleaze bully fest of a presidential debate that played badly and did not help him in polls, scuttle the next one. Why not tweet a positive. Defeat the virus, or asymptomatic and he will have his supporters howling and he can proclaim himself UberTrump. Take a ton of hydroxychloroquine or whatever snake oil the Republicans are touting as a miracle cure. it's all a win win if you are sinking in the polls. What do you really have to lose.

Trump is also known to think very short term so lets see how it plays. He can always say fake positive tomorrow.

Well, I don't know about your first sentence and I don't want to debate that but certainly politicians have have played the 'fake' game for gain since ancient times. Am I not correct in saying that it's similar to 'never let a crisis go to waste'? I mean, there could various methods and interpretation on this and Pres. Trump wouldn't be the first to use it (if he is) nor. I suspect. the last.

That can't be.

The elections must be held on schedule.

In the wider view of things it is not about the personal happenstances of the incumbent president or his opponent

Only a month to go.

I am not American. What does the US Constitution say about this? Interesting point.

That was posted 20 minutes of the first flash on the phone, (This post a copy moved from the first OP that TV shut down) Given the world we live in today. I don't believe first news flashes. Has to be verified by different sources and even then I am doubtful.

Now I am worried Biden might get it. The debate was supposedly designed with blowers etc to minimize risk, but who knows. Given the amount of cluster-chaos in the US and sheer incompetence for the last seven months, these numbnuts could have had it all in place and then forgot to flip the switch, during the debate. A bunch of lenny's, to use my local slang.

Given Trumps nature though we still have a lot to go through. What do you bet they might try and delay the election?! Anything is possible. When confidence men are on the ropes, they are the most dangerous.

Donald will be fine....as President he has dozens of doctors, nurses, and medical specialist taking care of him 24 hours a day.  Donald has even agreed to wear a mask at the next Presidential debate.

Medical science is largely helpless against this virus. Nature will take its course regardless of how many doctors he has.

Many prayers and thoughts of course but undoubtedly large variance in what they are praying for.

The health of my country and society are vastly more important to me than this man's fate.

The  election is underway. Too late to  delay.

The good thing, he do volounteer for not proven treatment, and has received a single 8 gram dose of Regeneron's polyclonal antibody cocktail that still is undergoing a clinical trial.

I do not know if that means they do take it serous, or thay by now, know it is safe. Exiting times.

Get well mr President.

Greed and lust for power are not medical diseases but they certainly share those. Why not a virus?

Whether it helps or not may not be useful information as I'm pretty sure he's from a different planet than earth. ????

People are saying this is a shock but I'm not sure I get that. Given the way he has behaved it was predictable. The only real shock should be the timing. Logically this was more a matter of when rather than if.

This is so. I am not American but my politics do veer slightly to the Right but that's based on Party Policies and not personal characteristics of the candidates. Certainly, Pres. Trump can be criticised for a personal apparent lack of consideration for Nature but I feel sure he knew the risks. Nature is something we have to live with and we must use preventative measures, if available, as protection.

Some posters on the thread seem to be glad that Pres. Trump has contracted a potentially dangerous, certainly contagious, virus and such comments are tantamount to condoning the spreading of the same and shows a lack of personal esteem and integrity. I do not like to see anyone suffer diseases no matter what their personal inclinations are. It's rather like the Thai road 'carnage'. I, like many TV members, have criticised the driving but I have never been glad that a driver has died as a result of inconsiderate driving. Just a feeling sadness and that it could have prevented.

The Reader's Digest condensed version:

45 is currently president. If he becomes incapacitated, Pence will temporarily be sworn in to take over. If Pence becomes incapacitated, Nancy Pelosi takes the helm.

In the event 45 can't resume his election run, the RNC will provide another candidate, not necessarily Pence.

Thank you. Interesting but does VP Pence automatically become a candidate too and have to follow the rules of debate etc.?? Or is the position left vacant?

Not at all! My personal belief is that the super rich who really run things don't particularly like Pence as a presidential candidate. There is NO automatic candidate Pence.

How about if the death of that really bad driver prevents many others dying?

Obviously you didn't understand what I wrote '...could have been prevented.' Prevention is always better than cure. If I don't wish anyone sickness I obviously don't wish anyone dead either. If you do then then say so, don't be shy now.

Yes because he is largely responsible for the over 200,O00 American Covid-19 deaths.

Well, that is an exaggeration, but I understand it. When somebody spends years alienating millions of people and countless countries this type of response is inevitable.

I note that in the 30 odd pages of this forum so far very few Trump supporters have had anything to say. Their silence in fact speaks volumes.

Personally I had thousands of reasons to loathe the man well before Covid. Immediately after the election I was neutral to the man. His behavior changed that within weeks and has only deepened since.

I believe some ballots have already been cast, either through early voting or by post. If Mr Trump is replaced either by Mr Pence or another candidate, how will votes for Mr Trump be counted?

THAT'S a VERY good question, and many legal minds much smarter than me are pondering this and similar questions. We're in uncharted waters!

I don't wish ill upon Mr and Mrs Trump. I hope that they come through the disease with no long term effects.

I am mindful however of two things.

He has a record (as the previous post shows) of mocking the ill, and scoffing at the risks from Covid 19 and the precautions taken against it. That cannot help but raise a chuckle.

He will receive the very best medical treatment the United States can give, money will be no problem. His administration is actively engaged in dismantling the initiative put in place by his predecessor which provides medical care for the poorer in the society he presides over. For them, if they need treatment, money will be a problem - they will simply go untreated.

I hope he ponders on that whilst he is laid up. I very much doubt that it will even cross his mind.

I hope he recovers. I hope he is decisively rejected at the imminent election. He is an abominal individual, I detest him and the creed of political narcissism he has created, what he has done to the United States of America, and by (inevitable) extension the world. But I don't wish him dead, only out of office.

Not being American, I don't actually know Pres. Trump as a person. I did see various episodes of, was it 'The Apprentice' or just 'Apprentice'. Never really cared for his manner or approach but then in no way am I a business-minded person. Perhaps that's what it takes, I don't know. Certainly, in recent videos, on a personal level, he appears to be an arrogant individual which I find distasteful but then again there are actors that off screen personally likewise distasteful but admire on screen acting.
