Phuket needs to realise they are the last in anyone's line as far as masses are concerned for here on. They have priced themself out of the next two years.

  • There is only one way to restore the tourism industry and that is letting tourists in. You see, it’s not that difficult????.

  • What about letting all people in with a valid O visa. Those who have apartments, money in the bank, those who spend money on golf courses, in restaurants, need taxis and tuktuks, go shopping, etc.  OA

The prime minister will visit Phuket on Monday (November 2) to discuss ways to restore the South’s Covid-battered tourism industry.

He'll discuss everything except stepping down, that's not on his agenda.

Well at least the PM and his horde will likely stay at one of the hotels for their

visit. I hope they can see just how deserted Phuket is at the moment.

   Geezer

I doubt it. I accompanied a famous tennis player to Phuket soon after the Tsunami, there and back the same day from Bangkok.

Phuket is not the problem. Prayuth is the problem. There are at least a dozen good reasons why you should be removed from office.

And what about your promise to fight corruption? I doubt if you remember back this far, but when you and your clowns launched a coup, it was ostensibly to restore law and order, which you accomplished with draconian measures, and to get rid of the rot, and corruption in immigration, the police, customs, the government, and at the highest levels, which you never even made the slightest attempt to do. You substituted 10 foot alligators, with 14 foot crocodiles. And you have spent your entire six years protecting the elite, those in office, the army, the police, those who are connected, and the super wealthy. For God's sake, you could not even bring the Dark Tao killer to justice, nor the Red Bull creep. Again, busy protecting the wealthy with all of your power.

The real problem is, you will not go after any of these guys. Not the top bankers, not the high ranking guys, not the provincial authorities, and certainly not the army, or the police. They are all corrupt beyond imagination. And the level of corruption simply escalates, the further up the food chain you go. As far as most of us are concerned, everything is the same. The police and army are not expected to be honest, and they are not expected to engage in law enforcement, traffic or public safety, on any level. It is an irrevocably broken and dysfunctional system. Any hyperbole to the contrary, is just a smoke screen, intended to deceive the most naive amongst us.

Now, in this time of desperation, with your nation needing you more than ever before, where on earth are you? What have your proposed? Where are the solutions? How are you going to rescue the economy, and the millions who are out of work? Where is the meritocracy? Why are you always picking from the bottom of the barrel, when it comes to appointments? Why do you insist on people with no experience? Sheer cronyism? The nation does not need or want that nonsense. Grow up. Be a man. Behave like a man.

There are countless things the government could be doing, if they wanted to attract the high quality tourists. First they need to figure out a way to attract tourism, WITHOUT quarantine. That is fairly simple. A very reliable lab based test in the home nation, with test results before you board the plane. Then a simple antigen test at the airport. It takes 15 minutes for results. Sure, Thailand would have to invest in the test kits. Some general would have to be willing to part with a few million dollars. Each test itself, only cost $5 with the new Abbott test, which is available now.

Then they could get on to reform. Sacrifices need to be made. I do not hear ANY discussion about what sacrifices Thailand is willing to make, to get the tourists, and that multi trillion baht cash cow back.

The very first thing would be to repeal the anti farang wine bill, that was passed by a few very corrupt senators way back when, to protect an anemic local wine industry. They are losing billions of dollars a year in revenue, that would be had from a 100% wine duty, instead of 365%. The five star hotels would have major wine events, and the entire industry would flourish here.

Thailand keeps droning on and on and on, about how they want wealthy tourists. Again, what sacrifices are you willing to make? Rich tourists like to spend money when they travel. And they cannot do that here, as they do not like getting taken for a ride. Most wealthy people are smart with their money. Thailand could be making a fortune on a 25% luxury tax, instead of the 100% of more, which discourages most people from buying. How many people do you see in the luxury stores here? They are almost always completely empty. Inane. Beyond inane.

Sadly the good general will miss out on seeing all the crazy kids (less helmets) racing on the streets on their loud motorbikes as most of the roads will be cleared of traffic whilst he is around.

just think of it... his convoy of +/- 40 vehicles travelling over the islands notorious hills.

He won't do anything. He doesn't know how to do anything positive. His brain is too small.  He only knows how to ban and crackdown on things and curfew.

I couldn't agree more! But you know what... this govt would quite literally cut off their nose to spite their face. They simply do not want to help foreigners with valid O visas (even though by letting them back in they would be helping their own economy and Thai people). They have come up with this 40% discount scheme to encourage travel... but again they don't want to offer it to foreigners. They cannot see the bigger picture and it really does show their lack of vision. It should not matter who uses the 40% vouchers to travel as long as the money is being spent... but they do not see that. Total inept people running the show.

Ways to restore the tourist industry? There's really only one way: let tourists back in!

I have thought initiatives on moving Phuket's economy away from just tourism would be the most relevant discussion topic. That however requires forward thinking.

This administration has me rolling on the floor with laughter more and more each day. I wonder which twinset and matching mask he will don for Phuket.

Where are these tourists coming from France Germany and the UK now .locking down plus more countries in Europe Spain Italy ect

The USA  and others getting  worse as well

Looks like we are back to depending on the Chinese coming again

Tourist industry has too many Chiefs and no Indians better to let civil servants advise if and when to reopen to tourists but now is not the time it is better to accept peak season lost this year and find other ways to support the tourism and related businesses by way of Government subsidies

Great idea...demonstraters   need food and a place to stay

Good thinking  dude

However I  think prison  tourism  would have more appeal

Good Luck   Thailand

with the quantity of incompetent people, including him,  in his government did he expected anything else.... your time is over, better to quit now

its really very simple, what is they dont uderstand?allow people in.the Q is now 10 days a good move.the insurance scam needs to go and allow people in according to whether or not they have the virus not some racial admission policy,so if you test negative thats great u r neg so where u come from and what colour u r is not the important factor.is that too difficult a concept to grasp??put more flights on hotels and airports are empty, internal flights have gone well and serve a s a dry run

Well, if there's anyone who knows about falling flat, it's this man.

The island is dead for a while already and he is visiting it just now ?? Hope his family and close friends will know that he will not visit them while they are sick but will wait untill they are dead and buried .

Hotel occupancy rates were only 30 per cent in September, increasing from 13.4 per cent in June.

30% ?   I guess this is calculated on the very few that are open

Yes, plus air-tickets that get more pricey during the so-called "long weekend".

Exactly my thoughts. Was planning a few times to visit Phuket during a regular or long weekend.

Flights were so expensive compared to pre-covid times I decided to go to the east coast and Hua Hin by car.

A complete waste of time but then he's a complete waste of space,

yet more jaw, jaw and no action.

Even without Covid, why go to Phuket? Overpriced, overdeveloped and no Thai culture

Prayut's on the job. He'll fix it!????

It's all under control - HIS.

He will probably use his helicopter (TIT 1) as he did when he visited Koh Chang.

Thank goodness he is visiting. He did an amazing job in Chiang Mai. They no longer burn here and our air is fresher than the Swiss Alps. PMI 2.5 is never above 10 and the economy is thri the roof. Hes a gift to this nation.additionally tourism,i read, is only down 7% from this time last year and by december they will be 26% higher espicially with yacht owners and crew spending 2.3 biliion thai baht every hour and grouls of 100 chinese tourists spending 72 million baht every minute.

"The premier will also hear their requests for government remedial measures."

He will hear but will he listen?
