PHUKET: Three foreign yachts entered Phuket waters and anchored about 6km from Ao Por Pier on the island’s east coast yesterday (Nov 27) before public health teams administered the necessary COVID-19 testing and quarantine proceedures on the crew.

Vice Admiral Choengchai Chomchoengphaet, Commander of the Third Naval Area Command and head of the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre, was present at Ao Por Pier and confirmed that foreign yachts are now permitted to enter the country, with yesterday the first day.

“All officials must follow the preventive measure orders of the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha,” commented Vice Admiral Choengchai.

That sounded very dictatorial.. ????

Well hallyeffingluya! 17 people arrived or thereabouts. That has saved Thai tourism.

Do yacht crew need visas?

If so, how did they obtain an STV or TR60?

(I'm assuming they don't have a valid ext of stay/re-entry permit.)

Wow the big spenders have arrived on their yachts ! Probably a total of about 12 people on them if your lucky ! Hardly Roman abramovich class is it ! ????

THREE yachts!   Wow, that will boost TAT's numbers by at least 20 to 30K for the month.  Cant wait for their new year to year figures and then their 5 year predictions and then wow, their comparisons of this 5 year period compared to the last.....oh so exciting.  (why dont they just go get a hair cut and a real job <deleted>!)

When the arrival of 3 yachts is considered newsworthy one needs to say no more about the state of the Thai tourist industry.

Its three more than last month.

But bash away, dont let me spoil your fun.

To lazy to click.

"No crew will be permitted to make land on Phuket until the 14 day isolation period has been served and all officials have correct records in place"

, these guys deserve a bloody medal having to stay on a hot sweaty boat for that long.

Sure it's just news, only an idiot would expect them to have any impact though

A yacht will have aircon.   Im sure they can order fuel and supplies.

No AC unless in a yacht club mooring.

Being 6km out should be quite breezy at the moment we are still getting rain down here, not too hot

I wonder if they would allow me to dock with a 30 feet sailboat too.

This has nothing to do with saving tourism, the news is foreign yachts are allowed in again.

The only news here is that private yachts are being allowed entry to Thailand again.

Big news for them, as there are thousands of yachties who found themselves unable to enter ports in many countries when lockdowns occurred.  Two of these particular yachts reportedly were long based in Phuket, but were at sea when the closures happened. Most are on tight budgets and unlikely to impact tourism to any great extent.

However, when news spreads that Thailand is again open to these vessels, many more are likely to come. All have to quarantine at anchor before being allowed to land.

If you were in the yachting industry, having 3 yachts that have been stateless for months finally allowed in and with many more waiting to come, you would find that very newsworthy. Any relevance to the tourist industry is incidental but this could well herald a general opening up of the borders.

Of course they need visas, and so do the boats. They have marine industry immigration agents.

That is the case for a lot of small boats: alternators on their auxiliary engines, solar or wind power to charge the batteries and inverters for 220V.

Thats awesome, I thought they went hundred of miles out to sea with a long extension lead plugged into a 240v outlet at the marina !!

Mine had a 6.5KV Generator and a separate fuel tank, if needed also was equipped with a transfer pump to refill if needed and 3 ceiling units, 2 - 24,000btu units and 1 - 36,000btu unit. All were actually Heat Pumps for year around use.

Also be noted these seem to be upper low end Sailing vessels (Nothing wrong with that as there are many So-called Yachts. Mine was a 48' Cat

I am sure they are equipped.

That's idiotic. Everyone knows there are undersea cables running between continents  beneath all the oceans. Vessels simply need to connect to them to run their AC.

The Russians very kindly service these cables regularly.

Still gunna need a decent extension lead to get down to the sea bed floor.
