Officials take action after Hua Hin event falls foul of Thailand’s strict alcohol laws

Thailand's provincial health authorities reacted swiftly ahead of the just concluded jazz festival on Hua Hin beach after a beer tent appeared on the sands.

The tent with piles of cases of beer displaying logos of a famous brand was not allowed as the beach is a public space.

Manager reported that Dr Suriya Khuharat of the Prachuap Khiri Khan provincial health authority and other agencies responded after complaints were received on the Line app.

Local officials were unable to sanction such a facility and would face severe penalties if it had been allowed to go ahead.

Failure to act against the beer tent would have been a punishable dereliction of duty.

It was unclear whether those who set up the tent would face prosecution.

Manager was at pains not to say what the brand of the beer was, but it was obvious from their uncensored photos, notes Thaivisa.

I agree, it was a public beach and they had no right for an erection on a public beach .

The authorities did the right thing as well , just asked for the erection not to be used and for it to be removed .

Drinking beer on a beach  is frowned upon, but acceptable , but drinking beer on a public beach with an erection is just plain wrong

the beer tents would NOT have any licences to sell booze so therefore should NOT have been there.....

If they had  received a licence, would they have been allowed to have their erections on the beach ?

Obviously the organisers were not very organised my guess they were invited to setup business at the event they usually rent the space out to generate money

If this were to be upheld in Thailand, the unemployment problem would be well and truly solved!

Amazing Thailand. They torture birds for those god-for-saken bird nest drinks, but alcohol cannot be sold or advertised.

And they want tourists to come back?

Surreal!

On the one hand the authorities wish to improve tourism, and events that can be attractive for tourist to visit in a certain area, and on the other hand the authorities makes the event unattractive for many of the visitors; however if going to visit a temple market with entertainment the beer would flow in full volume, but that is of course not a public area.

Very few good musicians drink while performing.

Depends on what you play.  Easy pop songs or really difficult jazz tunes.  When I do easy pop stuff, I have to drink. LOL
