webfact
Bangkok Covid reaction: Screening at bars/pubs to be stepped up, large public gatherings should be avoided Picture: Sanook Bangkok's governor general Aswin Kwanmuang issued a ten point plan yesterday to prevent the spread of Covid-19 after hundreds tested positive in nearby Samut Sakhon province. New Year parties could be cancelled, the movements of migrant workers will come under scrutiny at checkpoints and some schools will be closed for two weeks. The general public are bound to notice a renewed vigilance regarding the wearing of masks and use of the Thai Chana track and trace application. Some schools given the option to close early for the holidays may do so. All people have been urged to wear masks when outside at all times. Here are the ten points that Gen Aswin stated on his Facebook page after a crisis meeting yesterday: 1. All schools and nurseries in areas next to Samut Sakhon are to be shut from today until January 4th (for many this will mean an extra week's holiday as they would be off for New Year anyway). This applies to Bang Khun Thian, Bang Bon and Nong Khaem areas. Teaching must move online. 2. BMA personnel who travel through or live in Samut Sakhon should work from home. 3. Large gatherings such as New Year parties and New Year merit making in both the state and private sector are advised to be halted. Permission must be sought for them to go ahead with clear plans in place to restrict the spread of the virus. 4. Migrant workers to be screened at four checkpoints 24 hours a day from yesterday at 6pm. These will be on four roads: Petchkasem, Rama 2, Borommaratchachonnani and Klong Pithayalongkorn. 5. Public urged to use parks for exercise but not to gather in large groups. 6. Testing to be ramped up among 100% of migrant workers at 472 markets and traders with connections to Samut Sakhon. 7. Migrant workers at construction camps to be checked 100%. 8. Cooperation sought to restrict migrant workers attending religious locations until the situation abates. 9. Migrant children to be screened at schools. 10. Restaurants, hotels, pubs, clubs, karaoke and department stores to employ strict 100% screening insisting on masks, social distancing and spaces between tables. Dancing to be discouraged at clubs. In general all people are asked to wear masks when outside and QR scan Thai Chana app or write details on sheets provided so that contact tracing can be facilitated. Meanwhile some other Thai schools in Bangkok given the option to close are shutting early for the New Year holidays, notes Thaivisa. Most international schools are already shut. webfact
Bangkok announces 10 measures to control Covid-19 transmission By The Nation Bangkok governor Asawin Kwanmuang The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced 10 measures to curb the transmission of Covid-19 and has launched a proactive hunt for migrant workers who may be infected. BMA has also closed three schools that are on the border of Samut Sakhon province. The new measures ordered by Bangkok governor Asawin Kwanmuang are: • All schools and preschools in areas close to Samut Sakhon, such as Bang Khunthien, Bang Bon and Nong Khaem districts will be closed for 14 days (December 21 to January 4) with classes being held online. • Government officials or BMA personnel who commute from Samut Sakhon will need to isolate themselves and work from home. • No gatherings are allowed for the New Year celebration. If events need to be held, organisers must submit a disease control plan to obtain permission from the BMA health department. • Screening checkpoints have been set up on Petchkasem, Rama II, Borommaratchachonnani and Liap Khlong Phitthayalongkon roads to monitor migrant workers entering Bangkok. • Parks can be used for exercise, but not gatherings. • All migrant workers at construction sites will be screened for Covid-19. • All 472 fresh markets in Bangkok will be checked for active Covid-19 cases, with a special focus on delivery personnel and middlemen dealing with seafood from Samut Sakhon province. • Places of worship and religious locations in Bangkok have been asked to refrain from activities until the situation is resolved. • Schools will help search for parents who are migrant workers to undergo tests for the virus. • Entertainment establishments, restaurants, hotels, shopping malls as well as pubs and karaoke bars need to strictly screen clients, ensure masks are worn, tables kept apart, customers refrain from dancing and the areas are cleaned regularly according to the Public Health Ministry’s guidelines. Everybody is required to wear a mask in public as well as track their movements using the Thai Chana application so it will be easier for health officers to detect and investigate cases in case an infection is detected in the area. They really cannot stop themselves from being massive racists can they? Apart from when the Chinese were visiting as covid took hold. There has not been any blame towards them, only the 'dirty ferang' to coin a well-known recent phrase, for passing it on. It must have originated there - in Ferangland, next to Lapland. spidermike007
The nimwit policy of mask wearing at restaurants has already been tried in the US. Just too difficult to pass food through the cloth, and alot less fun. If precautions are to be put into place, they need to be practical and backed up by common sense and science, not panic and fear mongering.

unblocktheplanet
Governor, where are your stones! It's past time for making suggestions—it’s time to be making ORDERS with penalties for noncompliance. 1) Shut down interprovincial travel: planes, trains, buses, maybe private cars 2) Schools MUST be closed 3) No New Year countdowns or other gatherings 4) Bars, pubs, karaoke, massage closed 5) No weddings or funerals 6) No religious gatherings Of course, it’s crucial to test at 472 fresh markets. But not only migrant workers. These folks are providing our food. Test everybody!
Almer
Large gatherings should not be avoided they should be banned as of now, so is this government going to let Covid get hold before stepping up the lockdown or whatever, if Thailand with a similar population as the Uk gets the same level of infection it will be curtains for many, its ok the PM saying they have excellent healthcare etc they have not comprehended the scale of this when it gets hold , look at the rest of the world, look at the UK or USA with there healthcare, the healthcare can be the best in the world but the answer is to stop it overwhelming the system.
Popular Post Hanuman2547
A lot of xenophobia being spread as usual by the Thai government. Have they ever thought that a lot of Thais at the construction sites and many other places might be carriers as well? For some reason, the Thai government always thinks that only foreigners are the ones that carry the virus(s) and Thais, whether at home or abroad, are miraculously immune from any and all diseases.
