  • There is no excuse not to own one these days. They can be had for as little as 1-2k thb If people can not afford that, then they can't afford to be here in Thailand

  • What about those who can't afford a smartphone and/or do not know how to use them? Does the government supply free phones now, or offer classes, how to use them?

The Thai people will be getting the Chinese-developed vaccines.

The question of that this kind of app is on discussion around the world. While centralized option can track your phone, decentralized keep safe your information;

Interesting scheme like in Singapore where the government has already handed over all data to the police

No, go read the article on it. The doctors and hospital workers are going to get the 2 million doses of Chinese vaccine. The rest are getting AZ and whatever the Thai government can scrap up. And, btw, at $20 a shot, they're overpaying for the lower efficacy and not yet finally approved Chinavax.

The first lot will be administered to medical personnel, as they are on the front line in the battle against the outbreak.

Doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca will be administered to members of the public.

Next?

I would be amazed if you can no longer sign into places using the old fashioned way....a pen and paper.

'They'?..'Helpless'..If anything this thread shows how unhelpful and uncooperative many foreigners are, mainly British, American and Australian. The one redeeming factor is that these people, who demonstrate Anti Social Behavior Disorder are not actually here in Thailand.

You really do believe everything that is written, even when it is full of sarcasm and wit.  If someone told you the moon was made of green cheese and then many others bantered on about how it was just old and moldy, would you believe any of it....hmmm I wonder.  Tracing apps, targeted tracking and tracing, chipping, a person, barcodes tattooed on bodies, or better yet Cameras on every corner watching every moment of your life.  Would you believe any of that when it is reality.  Why not just start random testing of the population here, be it an expat, a Thai, or a foreign worker, even the students because in my opinion that is the only way they will have a grasp on the spread of this virus.

I think there is a very big difference in asking people to check in when they visit places, and install a tracking app that constantly monitors and reports directly to Government agencies.

One is helpful and co-operative, the latter is invasive and a breach of privacy.

Same here - my J2 is full!

My Nokia flip phone is not internet connected nor do I want it to be.........have seen the iPhones dominating peoples lives.

Not for me, my phone is for telephone conversations and that's it!

The same country that could not get a law enforced to ban riders from going down the highway in the bed of a pickup truck is now going to mandate those same people own a smartphone and download this app?  The prisons will be full to overflowing. Which will be interesting, because they're already full to overflowing so much that they're giving people early release.

I assume these apps require an Internet connection to log in/out of places.
What happens in the case of not having an Internet connection on my phone?
I use wifi for Internet on my phone at home.

Simple answer to all these questions. Sign the registration book at the entrance.

Have a look at Morchana evaluation, One of the questions is does your work involve contact with many foreigners? So they still insist on the same old stupidity

According to Richard Barrow and Thaiger this becomes 'compulsory'  if you plan to do interprovincial travel. I guess that means you will be checked when you cross provincial borders.

2h
If you plan to do interprovincial travel in these five provinces Chanthaburi, Chonburi (Pattaya), Trat, Rayong & Samut Sakhon you MUST download and use the two apps. The names are ThaiChana and MorChana. They are available for both iPhone and Android. Just search for those names.

Quite misleading (clickbait?) headline as the installation of the app is only required for certain provinces of Thailand.

According to this article, it's only required for interprovincial travel with the red provinces, not for travelling within them, or if you just live there and never go anywhere else:

"The Thai Government has clarified that the “MorChana” GPS tracking and tracing application is required for interprovincial travel in the highest risk zones, which are currently five provinces, including Chonburi/Pattaya. Failure to have the application and if caught with Covid-19 can result in stiff fines and possible jail time if traveling inter provincially without it.

The current five high-risk zones are Chonburi/Pattaya, Rayong, Trat, Nonthaburi, and Samut Sakhon."

YCMTSU

When you turn the app OFF, it is tracking NOTHING.

When you turn it ON and use it when popping in and out of stores, it is INTERACTIVELY tracking.

When you finish shopping, you turn it OFF and it STOPS tracking.

The next time you turn it ON and scan a QR code, the database will either flag you as still 'green' or will alert you that in recent times you were in close proximity to a smartphone being used by a user who has reported as testing positive. They don't know where, when or who and neither do you.... but it happened. You should then go and get a test.

NB: Showing the red flag on your chosen smartphone app to the testing center entitles you TO  A FREE TEST!

After 28 days, all the data acquired during the interactive tracking cycles is deleted.

Definitely use the ThaiChana app (blue fist icon), MorChana wants wayyyy too much personal data (and apparently swallows the battery too).

EDIT The ThaiChana link in the OP appears to be for registration of a store, the App itself is in the Android and iOS playstores.

Wouldn’t even download on my phone say no wifi connection, I go mall IT internet ok app bad

I know a few Thai people that can not afford these phones does that make them criminals?

I was thinking about posting something homorous, but my wife made a point that perhaps it would be wise to install this app in case I get covid and need to use insurance.

I use an old small Nokia that fits into my trousers pocket when I am outside. So no way to use the app. Only alternative is to write your name and phone number on this dirty piece of paper with a dirty pen. In the end you can write there what you want.

You can bring your own pen. Or did you mean your own pen is the dirty one? ????

Enough excuses. You live here pop down to 7/11 & buy one, if you cannot afford, what the heck are you doing here.

You can still enter stores & banks  without one but the regmarole required will send you running to buy a smartphone

Sorry; daft statement; we have a lot of old Thai's living around us who don't have a Smart Phone or Internet, some don't even have a Land Line.  You are assuming everyone is either living in a City Condo, a Palace with a Ferrari or some such.   You have forgotten the Core people of Thailand !

How many people do you know who does not have access to a mobile phone?...That go shopping at posh malls?

You realize that there are more Thais, migrants, and others than there are expats right.  Many people live hand to mouth and do not have the coin to pay for a smart phone, some could care less to have one.  I would prefer not to have one and go off of the grid, but unless I moved to an island and cut contact with the world for me it is not an option and so I have mine.

Many, and they do not shop in the malls, but buy clothes at the corner stands or from the sellers on the over crosses.  Many homeless here in Bangkok as well.  You really think those that are groveling for your satang or nueng baht have a smart phone.  Lets be real here.

That doesn't really help because the paper is dirty too.
