Trump administration had no coronavirus vaccine distribution plan - White House

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There was no distribution plan for the coronavirus vaccine set up by the Trump administration as the virus raged in its last months in office, new President Joe Biden's chief of staff, Ron Klain, said on Sunday.

"The process to distribute the vaccine, particularly outside of nursing homes and hospitals out into the community as a whole, did not really exist when we came into the White House," Klain said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Biden, a Democrat who took over from Republican President Donald Trump on Wednesday, has promised a fierce fight against the pandemic that killed 400,000 people in the United States under Trump’s watch.

He signed a series of executive orders last week, including some that target vaccine distribution.

Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator under President Donald Trump, told CBS's Face the Nation that Trump was given 'parallel data streams' from another source on the COVID-19 pandemic and that Trump presented graphs she never made. This report produced by Yahaira Jacquez.

Biden plans to partner with state and local governments to establish vaccination spots in conference centers, stadiums and gymnasiums. The new administration will also deploy thousands of clinical staff from federal agencies, military medical personnel and pharmacy chains to increase vaccinations, and make teachers and grocery clerks eligible.

Vaccination programs lagged far behind the Trump administration's target of 20 million Americans inoculated by the end of 2020.

"We've seen this factor all over the country where millions of doses have been distributed, but only about half have been given out," Klain said.

"So the process of getting that vaccine into arms - that's the hard process. That's where we're behind as a country.

That's where we're focused in the Biden administration - on getting that ramped up."

Trump is out playing golf and laughing at all those who died from Covid. He's probably calling them suckers and losers like those who died in WWII.

The US was slow getting there, but now that the loser-in-chief's tweeting ... fingers have been stopped from putting out lies, at least now we understand it's no hoax.

Next step, wear masks and do the social distancing thing. Baby steps.

In defense of Trump, he is busy overturning a legitimate election for himself. There really no time for other policies if it don't involve him. ????

A post from an unapproved source has been reported and removed.

Fact checking by Snopes is accepted as credible. There has been claims CNN reporting on infrastructure / processes for vaccine distribution by the prior administration is questionable. The following is from Snopes analysis; the claim is rated as 'mixed'

But if you look at the plan that the President has put forth about the things that he’s going to do — namely, get community vaccine centers up, get pharmacies more involved; where appropriate, get the Defense Production Act involved, not only perhaps with getting more vaccine, but even the things you need to get a good vaccine program — for example, needles and syringes that might be more useful in that. So it’s taking what’s gone on, but amplifying it in a big way.

There was a plan. It's stored next to the new health care plan on McEnany's Filofax.

As you may recall, Trump claimed to have had a plan, and it was called Operation Warp speed. The states have been ready since day one. The vaccine that was promised never came. It sat in warehouses, or it did not exist. Quite an operation. He failed the American people with the vaccine, just as he did with Covid, Hurricane Maria, and every other national disaster he faced.

Whether or not  a few or some or all anti-Trump posters hate Trump is as irrelevant as whether a few or some or all pro-Trump posters love Trump. What's relevant is what the facts are. And clearly the facts against Trump are damning.

In total agreement. What those morons wouldn't see is that Trump was working for himself.  He despised his followers: they were his tools to stay in power. That's how populism works.

Yes that's right. The vaccine distribution plan was called Operation Warpspeed, it was even praised by Biden.

"President-elect Joe Biden finally offered some words of praise for President Trump’s record-breaking Operation Warp Speed. Better late than never, we guess.

After getting his own jab Monday, Biden acknowledged the Trump administration’s hard work on vaccine development, specifically crediting Operation Warp Speed with “getting this off the ground.”

You're woefully behind the times. At the time of your news source, Joe was trying to be a cheerleader. Then, once he got his hands on the actual playbook, he saw the dismal lies about Operation Warp Speed.

No. Operation warp speed was a vaccine plan  not a vaccination plan. It's great that a vaccine could be so quickly created. But that's not enough. You actually have to get it into people's arms.

What's more after it was discovered that there was an extra dose in each vial, the Trump administration allowed Pfizer to cut it's total number vials shipped rather than create nearly another 20 million doses for free. Not so surprising since Sec. of Health Azar used to be CEO of a Big Pharma corporation.

It is true that Biden praised what appeared to be an effort on the part of 44 (the 44th worst ever), to do something, to do anything about Covid. But, as we see now, the plan has failed miserably, and as is the case with a hundred other programs that failed, Biden and his team are left picking up the pieces of badly shattered and bungled policies. There was nothing record breaking about the program, other than the number of times Trump tweeted or bragged about it. I realize it is getting harder and harder to defend him, and his administration. But, if there was anything record breaking about this effort, please enlighten us.

Nice attempt at spin, but you do ignore Trump mocking masks, holding superspreader rallies, and espousing wacky remedies, none of which he had administered to him when treated at taxpayer expense, more's the pity.

IMO Trump's only achievement in office was to weaponise Twitter into policy on the fly, and an attack vehicle. No doubt his ADMINISTRATION worked hard, but if Trump had anything to do with it apart from claiming credit I'll bare my a##e in Times Square.
