Yeah, I think the way Thai people treat foreigners has always been a bit of a pull and that seems to be decreasing, with a sudden dip thanks to covid.

The best part of Thailand is going to Nepal, India or Cambodia for a while, then coming back. When can we do this again?

Thailand is Thailand....

They don't kick you out immediatly

they just don't renew your contract when it comes at the annual date

(Particularly if you cost to them more than you are paying)

and it's perfectly legal for them to do that, in fact it's in the contract

Which is why one should take out insurance with an expat company, governed by EU/USA/UK regulations, where they can't kick you out....

The best part, of you live in Pattaya City, is that no need for a car or motorbike to get home....you can just swim! ????????????

The benefits of living in Thailand are the same as before, especially if you live outside the cities as there is no pollution in the air or water.

The OP started the post to see what was different in 2021 after COVID, protests, Air Pollution build up etc.

You think time is just standing still?

Has nothing to do with good or bad, has to do with telling the truth of the current 2021 situation.

While living in Thailand is slowly getting worse, living in a western country is quickly getting worse .... to the extent of many being locked in their homes. Thailand during COVID in 2021 is far better than any other country I would be allowed to easily enter IMHO.

Still waiting for you to post some photos of the great places you are eating/sitting/relaxing and communing with nature.

Been here 10 years and counting, still loving it.  Wish I could travel internationally but since I can't my partner and I have been exploring Thailand and have enjoyed the places we have visited.  Still a lot of areas we have not been to.

Property prices allow us to have a beachfront condo in Pattaya and a getaway place in Bangkok--we couldn't afford that in the US.  Love the year-round nice weather here and I don't hibernate in the winter like I used to do in the cold American winters.  Like waking up to sunshine most days of the year.  As another mentioned, when it rains here it's often fast and hard for a few hours and it's done--not days of dreary drizzle.

Right now, traffic is much easier, a plus. Pattaya Beach and the promenade have a more relaxed atmosphere now--quieter with the speedboats and tour buses gone--and more peaceful and laid back.   Many places are closed but many are also still open--especially if you get away from the tourist areas.  As I mentioned in another post, my partner and I are also venturing to the Darkside and are discovering it's a whole other world over there--with new scenery, new restaurants to try out, new markets and shops, and new recreational opportunities with things like the Mabprachan Lake bike path.  Life is good.

If I moved back to the UK I couldn't even afford that.

If you moved back to the UK there is an organisation at the main airports which will help you with accommodation.

Surely you were'nt born in Thailand, do you have a country of birth and hold a bank account there? Possums are'nt indigenous to Thailand, possum! Are you a ringtail or a bushy tail?

No, I'm from the UK and do hold a bank account there, but I want to keep my Thai Baht at a minimum with only enough for living expenses. but sometimes I have more Baht than I want to keep in this country. Possum is the nickname of my favourite country music singer George Jones.

Seems the OP posted this topic in the hope of finding like minded people who have nothing good to say about living in Thailand.

Instead it's mostly full of replies stating the opposite, but obviously we are all wrong.

Only two really bad things in Thailand, Thai drivers, and a military "government".

Think your pushing it with thai "drivers" they are more like operators, as majority have had no formal training, test is a joke, and the highway code is something other countries have.

"A good driver is anyone who understands that all road users have a responsibility to each other to obey the law and the rules of the road. It is anyone who is unselfish, and who respects the rights of others."

Now that certainly doent apply ????????????

China, then they can re-invest it for you in Thailand

My wife, and her Thai family in a nutshell. Also the many friends and neighbours that they bring with them. I loved England, but when i retired i had a choice to make, and i'm glad i made it. It's no reflection at all on my friends and family in the UK, which thanks to modern technology,it is easy to keep in touch with.

We are less than <10 minutes from the beach and Florida has a lot of excellent beaches with surfing, surf fishing, shell collecting, walking or whatever it is you want to do at the beach. All along the coast there are tons of Seafood restaurants, Tiki Bars, you name it.

Major cruise ship terminal 40 minutes away that cruise all over the Caribbean. Mexico, South America

We can also watch all the Space X liftoffs from the beach.

Beaches had life guards much like Australia as you can see.

Florida is an international tourist spot as well.

I've been to the US, but never considered it as a retirement destination.  What exists by way of visas for foreign retirees?

Nothing.

Something similar with visas might be Coronado Panama.  Or perhaps Baja California Mexico south of San Diego.

Yes, I like Florida too, but I have no right to live there either, and it's a bit too expensive for my pension.

I particularly like Sanibel Island.

Sanibel Island is expensive for MOST people!

Weather, food, nightlife, social mingling, beaches, mountains, jungles, restaurants, clubs, bars. It is paradise compared to UK and Europe

It's still not the place we didn't want to live in. Most of us chose to live in LOS because we liked it better. That hasn't changed, IMO.

Draconian rules about owning land,

Clever laws to stop foreigners buying up land and inflating the price till locals can't buy, as IMO happened in NZ.

Don't live in Bkk then. It's still a <deleted> <deleted> place to live IMO.

Nothing exclusive to the third world. Pretty much everywhere IMO.

Nothing exclusive to LOS with that.

Even before COVID, Thailand seems to be sliding down hill with increased air pollution, over crowding,

Agree about the air pollution, but Thailand has loads of uncrowded places to live, if it's that big a problem.

How many good Thai restaurants could I eat a meal in for the price ( tip included ) of one meal in the place in the first photo? I'll bet it's more than a few.

Most western women I know get offended if one looks at them for more than a millisecond, and while the ones in the photos may look attractive, IMO they are not as feminine as the average Thai girl. Give me a Thai girl in Thailand any time over those.

I suspect BW doesn't go to such places, none of those photos look like holiday snaps.

I asked him to share photos of places he had been (like the photos I posted), but he doesn't appear to have any.

Rusty's photo sign's are dated May 2019, so not even current.

As for the girls, I'd give 'pink' a go (given the chance).

As long as the frog  weighed less than 50Kg, and was under 35 years old ........ you may be right.
