Viral videos! Thai soap opera comes to real life as wife and groom's mum turn up at his wedding!

Thai social media was in absolute turmoil as a situation perhaps too rich even for the infamously trite Thai soaps played out for real. 

 

Hundreds of thousands of Thais have view, shared and commented upon the shenanigans that happened at a wedding ceremony at a house in Tha Chai in Chainat province in central Thailand. 

 

After posting on Facebook that she was going to go and be a witness at her "old man's" wedding the Thai wife did just that - carrying their marriage certificate and dressed in BLACK (a complete no-no for Thai weddings).

 

Live streaming on Facebook she was filmed going to the area where the couple - their heads joined by holy string - were receiving blessings of lustral water from relatives. 

 

 

She gave her husband a right talking to and was reportedly told by her husband, the groom, that she was not invited and should leave. 

 

"How can they do this?," she asked expressing her confusion.

Worse - or better depending on your perspective - was to follow. 

 

In a second viral clip being voraciously viewed by Thai netizens the MOTHER of the groom then confronted her errant son as he and his new wife received the monks' blessings. 

 

She pushes his head and slaps him almost  knocking him from his seated position.

 

 

The bride doesn't appear to react and the monks carry on regardless as the mum gives her son the mother of all tongue lashings before leaving them to it.

 

It was earlier reported that the groom was a "civil servant".

 

Better was to follow in the report accompanying the second Sanook clip.

 

He is a POLICEMAN. 

 

The first clip had 400,000 views.

 

Comment on the second clip mostly criticised the groom and praised his mum for not taking his side. 

 

Thaivisa notes that having such a ceremony would probably not constitute breaking the law of the land though it might be frowned upon.

 

It would probably only be illegal to actually register a second marriage while still married to the first wife.

 

In this case the first wife was carrying evidence of her marriage having been formally registered at a district office. 

 

So far there has been no suggestion that they were divorced.

Wife turns up, husband just tells her to leave, new bride just sits there, then his ole mother gets stuck in, gives him a slap, new bride just sits there again, monks carry on chanting, oblivious to whats going on, priceless, better than any crazy Thai soap operas.????

That Thai men do like they want and take what they need many times when it regards women, relationship and marriage that we all know. It´s nothing new, even if it is a totally brain damaged way of living.

What I am curious over, is how the monks can be allowed to continue marrying someone, who they by the time doing the ceremony knows is married to another woman by law? What does the monkhoods belief and rules say about that? What stance does the Sangha Council take in this matter? I was under the belief they were the ones who was showing people to walk on the right path in life.

The temple ceremony is just a religious ceremony, same as some cultures jump the broom. It is not recognized as a legal marriage until it is registered with the  Amphur.

Can you please tell me something I don´t know! Why did you feel the need to inform about that? I assume you believe it´s right to continue a ceremony of the people that have chosen to live the right way, when one of the persons in question is legally married, then.

Basically Monks will do anything for money just as will the majorioty of most other Thais.    I find nothing religious about Thai Monks; many just seem to be scoundrels wearing robes and in the 14 or so years i have been here i think standards in Temples and among Monks has dropped considerably.

Smart phones, smoking, porn, prostitutes', killing each other, etc..  Really doesn't seem like much is off limits for monks in Thailand.  Cannot possibly be compatible with Buddhism.  So much attachment, desire, etc..

No law has been broken. You're perfectly at liberty to marry according to Buddhist tradition. Just don't register a marriage twice.

Exactly!  The monks have no idea about Buddhism.  I have had numerous discussions with my wife and other Thais and have often found that none of them have a clue about Buddhist principles.   The conversations always seem to end with me inquiring as to what it is the monks teach you which was met with glances at each other followed by the shrugging of shoulders.

Just don´t register a marriage twice????? Why do you even post that at the same time you are trying to sound smart? It´s not possible to register more than one marriage!

Actually the groom and the new "girlfriend" have committed a suable offence under the Thai marriage act. Although this is only a ceremony the act has brought shame and loss of face on his wife who can sue both her husband and the gf for millions. But seeing that he is a cop in a small town it might "not get up" LOL

I concur that monks are often in the news for all the wrong reasons ...but are they any different or worse than other examples of teachers of religion. Look at the track record of catholic priests , evangelistic preachers in the usa, nutjobs in some middle eastern or african countries.
