There have been a number of articles about the arrival of the Chinese vaccine, Sinovac.  In the next week or so, the first 200,000 doses are to arrive in Thailand with administration to begin shortly thereafter.

In your opinion, do you think that vaccination is the best way forward and do you think this vaccine will work well enough to bring Thailand out of the economic malaise?

Chose the option that best expresses your opinion and feel free to leave a comment.

Why do you write "vaccination" in the headline and then your only options are about Sinovac? That doesn't make sense!

The question here in Thailand is if vaccination is still necessary if there are almost no Covid cases. Not even 100 anymore despite almost no lock downs. Even the "dangerous" night venues are open without much precautions. It is more likely that you will die on the way to the vaccination than because of Covid. So - does it really still make sense to vaccinate millions?

I don't believe there is any way out of the current situation.

International travel is gone for the foreseeable future to all but the very rich (or very determined).

The vast majority of the general world population just won't bother with recreational travel any more.

To give a prime example even though all Australians will be vaccinated by September they are still keeping borders shut until next year when they will of course make another extension announcement.

So there doesn't seem to be a lot of confidence in vaccination. It's wait and see

or we could all sit in and post how untrustworthy the Sinovac product is, never to return to normality

That doesn't make sense!

it's only an emergency order of 2mln doses (so for 1mln people), most would be for health workers, but not enough to jab them all.

astrazeneca, the hope of the government, the only vax to be made and widely available, is not mentioned. It the contract cancelled already by AZ and thailand is left almost without any vax?

pandemic is health issue, economic impact is huge, but as well as social.

on top of vax, there are also medicines, which work for covid. There might be also new ones coming. So there is hope. And chance for thailand to make and export them.

Some important facts should be noted here:

1: The vaccine (any of the available vaccines) no matter how effective, does not prevent you from acquiring (being infected with) corona virus. What it does is to train your immune system to detect and attack earlier the virus, thus reducing the symptoms down to those of a common cold.

2: After being infected (with or without vaccination) there is a period of time you can share the virus with others (you are infectious), but in vaccinated people it is less, because your immune system fights it off earlier.

3: Covid 19 will be with us forever, just like Spanish flue, only now Spanish flue is just one of the viruses combined in the 'flue jab'. In future this may become the case with covid 19, that is it may be included in the flue jab or it (the vaccine) will be updated regularly with the latest variants.

4: No one knows how long protection is offered by the vaccines, unlikely life long, probably less then 12 months.

5: It's seasonal, just look at the winter Europe and USA have just had.! Expect case numbers to again rise next winter, expect authorities will promote getting vaccinated again before next winter.

6: There will never be a return to pre covid times, life will have changed permanently, (did life return to normal after 9/11?) the best we can hope for will be reduced restrictions.

7: Expect inoculation (travel vaccinations) passports, either separate of part of 'E' passports (the ones with chips in them) these will be required by airlines before you are allowed to board and by countries before you are allowed to enter.

This (and other restrictions) will all be part of the post covid era.

Obviously 'NO' and thus the previous informational post as a guide to why.!

In Thailand, the Sinovac will not be given to anyone over 50 years old and also younger than a certain age. This is due to a lack of existing data on effects and efficacy of these age groups.

Excellent post.  Hopefully, in time, Covid protection will be included in the annual flu jab.

Lot's of expert Virologists and Immunologists here. The most likely correct answer is that we'll know in 5 years time.

Either choice assumes Sinovac efficacy which is unproven at best.  Is there a point to that?

The provided answers don't answer the question. I can definitively answer yes to the question, but do not have enough knowledge to use the answers provided.

I think it's a long thought out plan at revenge against the Thais who fled communist rule a century ago and this is the moment of genocide for payback and they've paid the government officials to go along with it.

Am I the only one thinking that as the virus originated in China should anyone really want a vaccine produced in that country?

Personally I dead set against having a vaccine for what is in most people a bad case of the 'flu.

However if vaccine 'passports' become the only way to travel then I will have it but it will be under duress.  DEFINITELY NOT the Pfizer one.

cannot answer the question as the reply options are only about Sinovac.

That's just not true, there was never any vaccination for Spanish Flu. It's still as deadly as it ever was, if it were to be found and revived.

I am in the UK waiting to return to Thailand. I had the Pfizer 1st dose on January 24th. They say the next dose will be in 10 to 12 weeks from 1st dose. It may not be the Pfizer vaccination which is difficult to store. There is data that there may be benefit from having different vaccines as they each have different ways of stimulating the immune system. Btw. I came back to the UK in March last year and had Covid a few weeks later. It wasn't so bad.

I wonder how many members have the knowledge and insight to answer either 1, or 2. ?

An ill-conceived survey aimed at an ill-informed audience.

No I didn't vote either.

Correct, useless and meaningless survey.
