Foreigners should be FORCED to have a Covid-19 vaccination - and they should pay for it, Thai poll

Covid-19 is a global problem, not a Thailand problem.

Some Thai people clearly forget that there is a whole world out there beyond their borders.

I'm fairly sure that that the World Health Organization are going to take a pretty dim view of any country who singles out non nationals, and victimizes them when it comes to the vaccination program.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying this is a good thing, but it makes sense to be realistic about how travel and expat life will be affected once the vaccine become generally available.

I think it would be a good thing.

Fine with me, if only the government would allow private hospitals to source vaccines themselves.

I will gladly pay the Thai price not a farang price

Gardasil and chicken pox vax. Apparently there is a common ingredient in all vaccines that she is most likely allergic to. According to the doctor. Her injuries are permanent (she still has episodes) .... so no more.

I wouldn't worry to much about this stupid poll, but thanks for bringing up the "serious adverse reactions to vaccines", I will have to keep that one up my sleeve if and when someone does want to force me to have the vaccine, against my own free will.

Everyone should have a choice, taking ones choices away would be nothing short of undemocratic, and before those keyboard warriors pounce on the keyboard, take a chill pill, I am not an anti-vaxer, but do believe in being able to make my own decision, regardless of what the mainstream populace is doing.

Can we also have our choice to drive our cars completely <deleted>faced without a safety belt? Taking that choice away was nothing short of undemocratic. I mean, take a chill pill, I acknowledge the fact that driving drunk is dangerous, but do believe in being able to make my own decision, regardless of what the mainstream populace is doing.

I'd pay. Normal price, not farang x 1000 price.

No one will be forced to take (and pay for) the vaccine, but they won't be allowed to stay. Not in Thailand, not in any country other than their home country.

In civilized countries the vaccine will available for free to all!

Retirees so low?

So much for the fabled Asian respect for elders.

Don't Thai people know that the elderly are in the highest risk of dying from this?

I don't really mind the impulse to force foreigners to get the jabs and pay for it.

Would probably get the same result in most countries.

44.54% thought that all foreigners should be forced to get a jab.

28.22% thought it was up to them

26.25% thought foreigners who represented a high risk should be forced to get vaccinated

Misleading heading. Most Thais think all foreigners shouldn't get a jab and a minority of Thais think they should pay.

As a Thai, I think all foreigners entering the country should be vaccinated but not those living here.

I think they should pay themselves. Those working will have health insurance. Those not working can afford it.

Nothing is "free". Governments produce no money of their own. They take money from taxpayers by threat of force.

Not sure why the $20 cost of a vaccine is such big issue for you.

I would happily pay a thousand dollars today for my choice of vaccine and a vaccine passport.

Did I state that $20 was an issue??? $20 would be no issue for me, I am comfortably retired, I don't pay direct tax. The govt pays me!

Cost of vaccine is $5 in Europe, South Africa made a big to-do about them being charged more ($7) than Europe.

Doubt the Thai hospitals will be vaccinating any white folk for less than $50.

Do they even realize there are a lot of people with this problem?

It's an MNRA vaccine, which is new tech. It doesn't work like previous vaccines. It's not the hair of the dog that bit you.

Which one? And what does the cost include? Just the production or also margin and things like transportation, storage and administering?

Again, the government has no actual money of its own. It removes money from productive members of society and gives it to you.

Yes. You wrote that "civilized" countries provide it for free, implying that Thailand is uncivilized if they don't provide you with yet another taxpayer-funded freebie.

That was my thoughts, they shouldn't be making a profit but we all know they will

Sorry to hear that. Based on what you wrote, she doesn’t seem to be allergic to the vaccine agent, but to other common vaccine components like egg protein, Gelatine, yeast etc. Were doctors able to find out what component exactly is causing her an allergic reaction, to see whether a different product may work or having it being administered by an allergist?

Cost was to  recipient, no need to worry about transportation, storage admin.

It doesn't matter which one as most countries don't offer any choices.

Cost for a foreigner to use a government hospital is 50bht + materials ....... I'd be happy to pay $7 in total

Would point out that vaccination is considered to be 'for the good of the general population'.

So therefore the general population should bare the cost.

It's the mercury that usually causes the problems.

Thimerosal is a mercury-containing organic compound (an organomercurial). Since the 1930s, it has been widely used as a preservative in a number of biological and drug products, including many vaccines, to help prevent potentially life threatening contamination with harmful microbes.

The various types of vaccine vary quite a lot in price, and the deals struck by individual governments vary too.

I think Europe got the best deal because, after ordering all their member countries to not make their own arrangements, they negotiated for 3 months to achieve a one Euro discount. This was a massive victory, highlighting the advantages of a federal Europe. Unfortunately, it also put them at the back of the queue and, so far, only 5% of the EU population has been vaccinated.

The UK paid the original asking price for all the vaccines, but have now vaccinated 27%.

Israel, meanwhile, is at 82.5% because they secretly control the world.
