Misquoted information regarding the origins of the virus

BANGKOK (WHO) - WHO convened an international group of experts to undertake a series of studies on the origins of the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic. The experts constituting the team are independent scientists. One expert member of this group was recently misquoted as suggesting that the origin of the virus was Thailand. There is no current evidence to suggest this. The article with the misquote has since been corrected.

 

The team recently concluded its mission to China, and is working on its report. The report will summarize the findings from that mission, including from discussions with Chinese scientists.

 

The broad strokes of the findings have been communicated at press conferences in recent weeks. The report will outline the remaining gaps in knowledge and outline next steps, including further studies that will need to be conducted in China and elsewhere.

 

The report will not provide a conclusion on the virus origins, as much more work remains to be done to reach such a conclusion. Given past experiences with these types of studies, the search for the origin of the virus may take months or even longer.

Not unless Wuhan Lab moved to Thailand! - WHO will do anything to divert attention away from their Chinese overlords.

I believe he actually stated that it could be a S E Asia Country, and no mention of an actual Country was made.

There is nothing in the paper suggesting that the Thai bat virus RacCS203, the subject of the paper, was in anyway the source of the pandemic. In fact, they point out that it is farther away from the Chinese bat viruses and cannot even bind to ACE2 receptors, the hallmark of SARS-1 and especially SARS-2. They only discuss very broad similarities so no cigar. Sorry China.

The Thai RacCS203 also did not come from southern Thailand. Rather, it was dug out of a 1m sewer pipe in Chachoengsao not far from Bangkok, by lead author Supaporn Wacharapluesadee, Thailand's own bat woman! 

 

I believe that China has been engaged in disinformation campaign since the start of the pandemic to cover up its involvement. They were also accusing USA  military of bringing infection, then  US food imports of contamination.

"Including Pangolins in the southern parts of Thailand". Soon Thailand will be a no go area.

Wouldn't surprise me given how some of the wet markets operate. Could have happened anywhere in the region & would be surprised if something like this hasn't happened before going by how little it seems to affect Asians.

The bat virus they found in China is closer, but still not close enough to say with certainty that is where it originated. Basically, they point out it's possible that the virus came from almost anywhere in Asia.

The Chinese have blamed everyone and everything for the virus that originated in Wuhan, and probably from their lab in that city. I am surprised they haven't yet blamed Martians or an alien arriving on a meteor. That will come when they run out of countries to blame.

There is no proof that the virus originated in Wuhan. None. There is a high probability it did come from China. And zero proof it came from a lab.

"No proof," no evidence."  I am so tired of hearing this sort of thing offered as proof.  Just because criminals are crafty enough to cover their trail doesn't mean the crime did not happen.  Using "no evidence" as proof is one of the most misused logical fallacies in the book.

 

If somebody wants to believe that the Wuhan virus came from a lab or that the US election was stolen, the fact that there is "no evidence" [that can be found] for either doesn't mean it didn't happen.  If police had this mindset, they would never even open an investigation, since they start with no proof.  Many times the police do a thorough investigation and can find no evidence to support an arrest, despite the fact that they are 95% sure who did it.  Crime does pay.

Come on. Conspiracy theories don't count. Investigations have been done. Do some research.

Okay, who else read that as Mosquito information.......at first?

Misquoted or not, it will be enough for the China PR machinery to shift blame.

 

But we should remember that if wild animals in SE Asia are a possible origin, it's the disgusting habit of some Chinese people of trafficking wildlife, keeping them in unsanitary conditions and then slaughtering them in filthy food markets that is the most likely cause.
