Thai media Daily News praised a ten wheel truck driver after his quick actions averted the possible death of a toll booth money collector.

Thitthian, 52, was driving his truck through Booth 4 (a payment booth) on the expressway in the Prachacheun area heading outbound to Pathum Thani.

This is when he said he experienced brake failure.

He quickly thought that the best thing to do in the circumstances was to plow into the "Easy Pass" Booth 3 as there would be no staffer.

He went into the protective barrier and demolished the booth but consequently there were no injuries.

No alcohol was in his system but Pol Capt Nittiwit Sattathonchaiphat of the Expressway Police 2 charged him with negligent driving and damage to state property.

Insurance were handling the compensation claims.

Daily News called the driver "jai det" in their headline that means "undaunted" or "resolute".

If there was nobody in the booth he should have just driven straight through it and not into the booth/safety barrier .

Perhaps he tried to and failed.

Strange that it is always a brake failure... The drivers have never stopped before?? and if they stopped there never a problem? Only if there is an accident the brakes don't work?? I think it is the speed and the stupidity of the driver which causes accidents instead of the brakes

Sherlock you may be onto something!

the brake failure was caused by a water bottle getting lodged under the brake.

maybe was carrying the famous "Amulet"

They just  can't  tell the truth about  anything, brakes  failed, what no  microsleep, $hit maintenance if  any will just be one of many factors, driver stupidity is  probably number one though.

As for the "praise" it's  the blind, deaf dumb and stupid  leading the  same.

you expected a different response ? ????

It's been quite a while since we had a Brake failure" ,

I was thinking all the trucking companies had their

brakes checked and fixed after the spate of failures

last year...but no, expect more in the coming months.

Never

so changing down the gears, applying the hand brake or  turning off the engine were all ignored, driving to fast and having no reflexes or even being able to think seems to be a major problem with many road users here, yet the idiot is praised by the news for being an idiot and failing to do what he is paid for, driving safely and making sure his vehicle is road worthy

Who would now be a lot stiffer if they were there ..

Great to see good old brake failure is back after being usurped by micro sleeping ..

Truck and coach brakes do not fail.  They will be minimum dual circuit so all cannot fail at the same time. They are airbrakes and air pressure holds the brakes OFF. Catastrophic failure in the system results in the brakes being fully applied ON. The only thing that has failed is the foot in the cab.

Typo?  "the fool in the cab"

If he was awake he should have sounded his horn and just kept going through the barrier instead for wrecking everything including his truck. Thick as a brick!!

Another typo - 'brake failure' should read 'brain failure'

Well said, I have been teaching my granddaughter how to stop using gears and handbrake. At her official lessons no instructor mentioned it.
