Thailand's re-opening "coming soon" as Anutin shows "Vaccine Passport"

Thailand's DPM and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul went on Facebook to show what he hopes every Thai will soon be holding.

A vaccine passport.

The passport is officially titled "International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis" and has parts in English to facilitate international travel.

Every Thai who has been vaccinated will get one.

Anutin was upbeat on his page promoting Thai hashtags that translated as # Thais must be safe and # together the country will recover.

Based on this Kapook said that the opening of Thailand was "coming soon" and quoted the minister as saying that soon for Thais everything would be "relatively normal".

And not joining the modern world with a digital system/certificate which would be valuable/quickly verifiable when arriving in other countries.

Further, is this his own idea or does it interface with the instruction from the PM to do broad research on the subject of vaccine passports/certificates?

Could  have been a lot sooner if they had moved faster on getting vaccine supply.

Vaccinated Thais will get the passport, but no word on the several million foreigners living here as ever...????

Can't stand him but a vaccine passport is, actually, the only way to go so we can get our lives back.

It's a normal yellow book and has been around for decades. I've had the exact same one for about 25 years.

It is needed to show proof of yellow fever and flu vaccinations to enter most countries in West Africa.

If you want one of these yellow books, go and get a yellow fever (or other) vaccination at the Thai Red Cross facility in Lumphini and ask for the book if they don't automatically give you one. I have records for about ten vaccinations in mine (all needed when working in West Africa).

Thank you for the enlightenment but we need it to travel after our Covid jabs.

Does he think foreign tourists want to mix with UNVACCINATED locals???

What is a-NUT-in's definition of soon? Its normally used to refer to a short time.

Just clarifying in case anyone thought this was in any way a new concept or new document specifically for that purpose.

So what happens when countries reach herd immunity, does everyone still have to get vaccinated to travel regardless of COVID now being perceived as a virus that is not as lethal as it was supposed to be ?

Yes. most here are aware of the Yellow Fever booklet and requirement.

You do realize that we're talking about people OUTSIDE of Thailand getting vaccinated and then obtaining some "proof" of that which Thailand might find "acceptable"?

Advising them to go to Lumphini seems, well, odd.

No clue why anutin is pushing this silly concept. No one beleives this drivel, it makes him and the country look clueless, and there is absolutely no pressure to say this sort of thing now. Not sure who is "audience" is?

Who do you suggest the "Passport" field is for on the front cover then. Thais have an ID card field there......

It would probably be welcomed by aliens who get vaccinated in Thailand to facilitate an easier entry to their country of origin.

It has been information about both migrant workers and other foreigners living in Thailand will get the vaccine free. They do not have to post that everyday in every news about the vaccine.

When you post several million foreigners, I assume that you are counting the migrant workers in that number. If not, It will actually only be around 150 000 up to 200 000 other foreigners living in Thailand.

It will be some re-thinking that has to be made for this guy, anyway. He hope that every Thai will have this document soon. Has he totally missed that it only arrived 200 000 vaccines, and the population is around 67 million people.

And if the airline (for your/my overseas travel) wants proof of vaccination before they will confirm a booking, do you send them a scan/capture of the yellow book page? (Which could easily be a photoshop production.)

Or do you front up to an airline office to show the original (which might have been photoshoped)?

Or???

All highlighting that in modern times digital/easily & quickly verifiable online proof of vaccination is much more sensible/practical.

Everything has got to be re-invented in Thailand to make sure it has the correct level of Thai-ness or it's no good, other countries are edging towards digital/verifiable records which will probably not be acceptable here, it needs to be the Thai re-invented paper version.

Thailand lives on paper copies of this, paper copies of that, even though it's in the verifiable computer records you still need paper copies to prove the computer is still right.

Like my daughter has been at the same school for 12 years, but she still needs twice a year copies of ID for her mother and me.

It is possible that Anutin may not have grasped all the details that are being discussed.

The actual "vaccination passport" will be a barcode that you present in the form of a card or an app. Scanning the barcode will take the checker to a webpage showing your official vaccination details, tied to your passport details and photo. It will be as difficult to use someone else's barcode as it is to use someone else's passport.

We all know the Thais love to stamp things. There'll be special ink used that can't be forged and UV lights involved...... It will be safe.

You might be talking about people outside of Thailand but the article specifically states,

Pretty clear he is talking about Thais travelling internationally not the other way round.

Screams of joy in Isaan

Well done Thailand! the PM has already indicated he is all for it
