FM 103 Pattaya

Featured Replies

Is anyone have trouble listening to FM 103 after they went off air for 2-3 days. They are back on air now but my three strong amps only pick up snow and background voice.Very bad.  Cannot listen. No matter what i do cannot clear the snow?

Reception is very patchy these days. I got them this morning, difficult to get them in the evening. It seems that another station has muscled in on their frequency.

I have this problem in the car especially in the morning but doesn't affect other channels like 96fm.

Online on my laptop seems to be much better.

They also seem to be having more problems segueing into and out of the BBC news on the hour.

is it just the lack of funds or other issues does anybody know?

My gut feeling tells me they are having problems. In recent times they have changed the music we listen too, they often cut off the song before it has finished playing in full, ( very annoying), they have problems with voice over the BBC news, they have many days off the air, no sorry, just, we are back on air. Many gaps in their transmission, I have sent them two emails and not had one reply. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have listened to FM 103 for over 6 years but they are going backwards with the quality of their service. A great station going down the toilet. PS: Not every one likes to listen to repeat BBC news bullitins.

They did ask listeners for donations a few months ago. They cited loss of advertising revenue which is entirely understandable at the moment. I wish them well and hope they pull through the crisis intact. They are just one of thousands of businesses struggling to stay afloat.

Covid be gone!!

in most other environments the regular sexual innuendo and harrassment surrounding the very pleasant lady  'midget' would lead to a sacking at least.  Cease and desist please

Megan is a Blackpool lass and can give as good as she gets. We are in Pattaya not Frinton on sea.

Not discussing if she has balls or not, nor her character nor birthplace,  simply asking the unseemly public  innuendo by the aging lethario (LOTHARIO) to cease

A common problem that 96FM went through.

Off air to my laptop right now. They've been having problems for a few months now. It's a good station when they can get things right. The problem with syncing to the BBC news is most annoying. I really do hope that they can get their problems sorted out. Instead of feeling annoyance as before, I am now feeling sympathy.

I'm actually glad to hear that it's not just me having problems, I thought my car audio system might be on the blink!

It often seems when they switch from the news back to the DJ, or from one DJ to another, that the station suddenly vanishes, like somebody forgot to throw a switch to change the source and we're left listening the the original channel where the presenter has now gone off down the pub for a beer.

If you REALLY want the BBC News, try BBC Sounds, R2 or 4 once a day cos it's always the same. Or LBC, or most other UK stations. You can go back to the amateur radio presentation after.

Hi, as you may know, I run the station and cant apologise enough.  i am typing on a phone so bear with me

the problems have been numerous, and to make it worse all unrelated.

1.. our main digital network blew a vital unit.  that took us off until i got it repaired which was a mega task

2.. a w10 update <deleted> up so much that i couldnt do it on my own as i hate w10.  most of our system is linux but the actual playout network has to be 10 for the software to work.  thats now been finally recified

3.. the transmitter in a differnet room blew.  its government sealed so i cant open it, had to wait for the techs to come.. thats done

4. in BKK the streaming company crashed, and they are huge so while on the fm we were not o the net.  we are moving companies but meanwhile can be heard

https://tunein.com/radio/Fabulous-Pattaya-103-fm-s167318/

i purposely set tunein a=with a separate strem url in case this happened

and yes, we run on a show string but no song played for a week, hahaha.  in fact the playlist worked, just losts of <deleted>

so there ya go, the life of a rock star.. soldering, begging and riggin things

we havent had issues for over a year so i guess it was our turn but to be frank i worked thru th night many nights as tech support comes from the US for the network and the Uk for the music system.  so we arent slacking.  many times i though we had cracked it, only to se another unit fail.  so i can only assume something really whacked the building.  we have voltage protection throughout but if something hits via the antenna there isnt much we can do.

locally we have issues with soething or one who is transmittin or causing  interference in some areas, we have someone coming to try and locate it.  it will be some thai station with a transmitter malfucnition so it is not keeping its broadcast within its own frequency but bleeding, but its also obvious they have an illegally large transmitter.  ( size is limited by nation wide regs).  if thats the case i cant simply blast louder as to do that would need a bigger tranny and thats ilegal.  so we have to locate them

in all we lost about 2.5 days total transmission, and had maybe another 2 days of terrbile sound quality n the fm, which doest affect the net.  the bkk crash of the streaming company is way beyond my control and i cant simply move as we need to get the suppliers to release the urls used else you wouldnt find us.

as to the midget, she sends her love, sall as it is, and will be hit on the head as usual from 10-12 weekdays.  she is more than capabke of standig up for herself and the day we go PC correct will be the day someone kindly buys us out.. cos that.. aint moi

thanks

tommy

Well done, Tommy. Communication re your problems helps people understand and I, for one, sympathise. Hope you get things sorted soon and hope it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg!

Hardly ever listen to it, bar the news and the U Tube updates which are good value. Don't like the music, don't like the inane DJ chat and the numerous amateurish adverts,  Reminds me of the old BFBS (UK ex Military will understand the reference) .

Unfortunately some of the tiresome irks from Frinton appear to be on this site pretending they are something they are not, being moralistic is hardly a cultural trait of Essex lads.

I think its time to turn it off and walk away, the platform, the content, the technology, the shear arrogance of a Brit (only) radio station in Thailand.  is from another century, the world has moved on. Can you even buy a radio nowadays?

Its like a tragic 1980s radio station transmitting (exclusively) to a small part of the expat community ie: brits. No Thai content, no Thai music, not even content for other expats. A format from 1980, drive time, todays quiz, I am surprised they dont do prank calls or guess the sound.

I dont think they even know who is listening or how many. Advertisements for where to buy a tin of baked beans or where to take the western family for dinner. The whole retransmitting the BBC world service is something that ended with short wave radio. Hits from the 80s, are they kidding.

AND, Its pronounced pat tay ya,  NOT Pat eye ya, they should be taken off the air just for getting that wrong

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. If you dislike it so much you don't need to listen to it. Change the dial......

Some of us obviously enjoy listening to it at times and for me that is dependent on music style being played.

If I wanted to listen to Thai music I would listen to a Thai station.

I could criticise some aspects but for me it is better than not having it.

Carry on 103FM  ????

Many thanks for the explanation Tommy. Take no notice of the whingers.

People should also be aware of the charitable work done by Tommy and 103 last year providing free food to the poor Thai people who had lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic. They didn't provide any free grub for down-and-out farang bar owners, only Thai people. And as for there being no Thai music, there is actually, every day at 6:00 the Thai national anthem is played.

Are you for real or is your post just a wind up ? It's an English language station, if you want Thai music, news, recipes or gawd knows what else then go listen to a Thai station moron.

the second dial on your radio is to choose what you like, maybe move on. we are licenced as an english language station and thats what we are and the music varies from 70 to today based on our audience of not 20's  not rap not hip hop and not miserable people.  in fact we extract the mirth from such types

its pronounced Pat ta yaaa, not as you write, in thai, but then cologne is koeln, Moscow is moskva and paris has a silent s.    such is life.  .

I trust you will move on and find something to enjoy in life, I truly pity those who live to be miserable.  we work damn hard to provide a bit of a laugh, decent news and music.  for our audience, but really and truly, we arent for you.  we are an expat radio station, and for those who understand life here and want o be a part of it, not for those dead from the neck up.  I can send you a list of miserable PC correct frequencies,  by pm and  trust that you will live out your life only to wish you had been a happier person.  thanks

and many many thanks fror the other, positive replies here, we are trying, probably very trying ????    but tis the way it goes.

oh and we survived todays storms, which is a mega plus as it shows me the safety nets are working

Very bad.  Cannot listen.

A few days ago I switched to 96fm.

I got so fed up with the inconsistent audio levels, ads were loud, news broadcasts was quiet, music was loud then quiet.

After hearing the many years from the owning apologizing and saying that the system is fixed and things will be 100% then only to get annoyed by another malfunction.

I'm happy so far with 96fm, nothing to complain about.

Only half the ads. ????
