Bangkok entertainment venues face closure if the COVID-19 situation in the capital worsens, the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has said.

The CCSA on Monday reported 194 new COVID-19 cases, 69 of which were linked to clusters  from entertainment venues in Thonglor and Ekkamai.

Venues linked to the most  recent cluster have been ordered to remain closed for the next 14 days.

However, the CCSA warned that if the situation continues to worsen then more entertainment venues would be closed by the affected provinces.

The venues concerned include the Krystal Club and Bar Bar Bar pub in Thonglor, the Ekkamai Beer House, The Cassette Music Barand Dollar in Wang Thonglang, as well as the Baan Phahon Cafe and Bar in Chatuchak.

Two other venues (which have not been named) located inside EmQuartier and Emporium shopping malls were also visited by people who tested positive.

Anyone who visited any of the venues is urged to take a COVID-19 test or contact local health officials on 02-203-2393 or 02-203-2396.

The news comes as Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Monday morning were offering free COVID-19 tests to people on Sukhumvit Soi 10.

Two biosafety vehicles were parked on the popular Soi offering tests in a bid to identify other clusters.

Thailand has only been lucky so far, their vaccination rate sucks and is unlikely to improve anytime soon, but hey that's okay, let people travel, have fun, get pi55ed, pass it on, whatever.

So when the economy goes into freefall because they let everyone have a week away both you & the faux government will be asking where it all went wrong.

Short term pain = long time gain, take a minute to look at how many businesses have gone to the wall worldwide, stop being selfish and try thinking of the greater good for once, remember, the Thais have the government to bail them out like the farmers, the fishermen etc.

Bangkok to close 196 nightlife venues amid new coronavirus cluster

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's capital Bangkok will close 196 entertainment venues for two weeks, the city's governor said on Monday, following a new surge in coronavirus cases.

The venues will be closed from Tuesday until April 19 as they are located in three districts where some venues are linked to a new cluster of more than 100 people who tested positive for coronavirus in recent days, said Asawin Kwanmuang, governor of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

"We will close entertainment venues in the three districts, while other venues where cases are found will be individually closed," Asawin told reporters late on Monday.

Thailand reported 194 new COVID-19 cases earlier on Monday, a rare three-digit figure, which included 45 from Bangkok's nightlife cluster.

The country has largely been successful in curbing the spread of the virus. Since last year it has reported 29,321 cases and 95 deaths.

On Wednesday, Thailand's COVID-19 taskforce will consider a proposal from the public health ministry to label five provinces, including Bangkok, "red zones".

Under the proposal, nightlife venues in the red zones would be allowed to open only until 9 p.m. and they cannot serve alcohol.

No alcohol ? Boy, some the buffalos are in for a hard time in the coming weeks.

After waiting so long to reopen

It is a shame Thailand is now hell bent on reopening without taking necessary precautionary measures.  If possible the vaccination programme should be expedited before reopening for International Tourism and Night venues

Yes, this will get a few hands shaking. There's always 7/11 to cushion the withdrawal!

Isn’t Bangkok a ghost town during Songkran anyway?

All the (infected?) workers will be going back to their families in villages

Two points. a) Accurate reporting and cause of deaths is debatable in Thailand

b) You want to let covid rip thro' BKK, and onwards to the provinces due to inaction as has happened in other countries ?

What I don't quite understand is that the elderly are considered high risk and given priority with jabs [after officials] yet it's the younger entertainment generation that are spreading the Covid infections?

Shouldn't they consider vaccinating the younger generation who socially mix more ?

Word on the street says that's where the clusters are traced back to... crowded venues which need to be dealt with.

Markets/restaurants/work-places or bars... whichever.

Which a lot of entertainment venues clearly have not been doing.... cried to re-open and then blatantly ignored all the warnings..

Som nam na.

Most other countries have done a much worse job than Thailand with Covid. Why would they seek to emulate that? "TIT" here is a stupid thing to say.

Nothing to do with hate or jealousy or Bangkokians...  it's called being proactive.

Got my first pfizer vaccine today!

? In Thailand ?...info please ..where to get one ?

If from Khaosan road ...never mind my info request ....????????

Hopefully this means that anywhere outside these specific areas can operate as normal. Otherwise it's going to be a pretty boring Songkran for many in Bangkok.

I'm gonna head up to our farm in Korat for Songkran with a couple of cases in the boot of my car. It looks like by the time I come back, Bangkok could be in lockdown. Given the pathetic vaccine rollout here, I really hope they can contain this cluster otherwise it could be a pretty rubbish few months ahead.
