The government is considering imposing a lockdown in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chonburi in a bid to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Natthapon Nakpanich National Security Council Secretary General and chair of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) sub-committee said the proposal to  impose partial lockdowns in the worst affected provinces was being considered by the government.

A meeting which will be chaired by the Prime Minister on Friday afternoon is set to rule on the matter, while other preventative measures such as closing or limiting access to gyms and further restrictions for restaurants could also be announced.

In Prachuap Khiri Khan, one of the provinces worst affected by this latest wave of COVID-19 infections, the provincial governor has already ordered all gyms to close and restaurants can no longer serve alcohol until further notice.

The news comes as Thailand on Wednesday reported 1,335 new COVID-19 caes, the highest number of daily new infections to date.

Starting today, shopping malls in Thailand must be closed by 9pm and where possible people are asked to work from home for the next 14 days.

Also on Wednesday, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Ministry of Public Health's Department Disease Control (DDC) said inter-provincial travel should be discouraged and urged people to remain in their current location rather than returning home from their Songkran trip.

Yet I am sure we will still be allowed to head to MTT for our 90 day reports, wonder how many checkpoints I will have at 7 am on Monday morning riding out to there.

yesterday night prayuth has ordered preparations for lockdown in those 4 provinces.

At the same time it was said that decision would be made today, Thursday. Now looks like they are not ready (cabined ministers are also on holiday and don't bother that much) and postponed the big meeting for friday afternoon.

Phuket was also mentioned I dont think people can stand it no more,

So situation apparently more worse than they will let on to. So as soon as all the Government MP's are back to their BKK mansions then the lockdown will begin for the peons. And no one expects these MP's who got infected to be prosecuted because they are oi n the Junta side of the fence. Time to go out and stock up on more aclohol.

Thailand will have border closure eventually, it's how they do things a little bad news at a time not to freak out the natives

My advice IMO only is anyone who needs to get out they should do so immediately.

The borders have been closed, except for commerce.  No tourists are coming across the land borders and few are flying in internationally.  Why do you think the borders are still open? One can always fly home as long as your country is accepting people flying in from Thailand but you wont be getting home by crossing a land border.

Think about it a few more days hey, can't ruin Songkran.  Putting a few bucks in peoples pockets yet creating a much worse financial situation with sickness and death.

Shameful

If you run out just holler, my wine refrigerator is stocked with 48 bottles and I have more in dark storage as well as the whiskey bottles that are in the bar

Depends if flight bookings decline which they will with the airport formally announcing no international flights except thais.

Right now the borders are open especially for business men, and long term tourists

Fairly obvious they will decide Friday so that all those people they let out but never should have done will have got home first !

I already did too, but I don't have enough to last a long long time. I like to change the alcohol up.

I need to make a dental appointment on Tuesday in Bangkok. Any thoughts as to likelihood of being able to make a day trip in and out for that purpose?

At this point Sheryl I would say everything is unknown until Tomorrow after they make a decision as to what they may do.  I need to go to MTT on Monday from my side of Bangkok, but I generally ride out through Nonthaburi and then back into the Area.  Not sure what the logistics will be now.

They should have done this before the holiday!

Nobody wants a lockdown, but at least it will avoid further sickness and death!

The simple fact is, the Thais won't get tested because they don't want to be put in hospital. Don't shoot the messenger. This is direct from the horses mouth.

Dont think its only the Thais, especially when you can be showing no symptoms and feel fine.

That's quiet a feat as it only started on 1st April 2015.

Mind you people were saying that after the last covid wave, but thy seemed to get things under control pretty well.
Let's hope they can do the same this time by the end of this month.

Progress will be seen as going from "unknown" to "unclear". Deaf cons for....
