May 17, 20214 yr According to The Tiger news Two Tourist's named as Sam Venning a British National and Carla Bartel a Canadian National have come forward to try and prove that the Conviction was unreliable of the two Burmese workers falsely blamed for the murder of David Miller and the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge on Koh Tau in 2014. Sam and Carla were attacked a year before on the same Beach namely Sairee beach in 2013. Sam claims Two men approached him and Carla wearing " V " for Vendetta masks. Criminologist and Human Rights Activists have for many years said the case was bungled by the Royal Thai Police in an attempt gain back confidence and keep visitors coming to the Island. Sam and Carla provided information on there attacks a year after but were not even interviewed looking into David and Hannah's murder a year later. There statements were ignored and the report was not sent to the Thai judiciary. Koh Tau has a bad reputation, in the last Decade Nine Europeans have died or gone missing on Koh Tau including Six Brits. In 2018 a British Teen was drugged and raped again at Sairee Beach, this case was mired in allegations of a cover up. So should this case be reopened and the real murder's should be brought to justice and Burmese Scape Goat's released with Compensation and an Apology considering they could of even been put to Death for a crime they did not Comit.

To overturn this verdict and further damage a battered tourists economy with even more bad news? Not a chance, the shutters will come down on any attempt to reopen this case. The Burmese two have been considered collateral damage. Wrong place, wrong time. You have high flying policemen and indeed your current prime Minister, who ALL stated they were guilty as charged. You think they are going to say they were wrong or admit a botched investigation? They then went through all three court, and that includes the Supreme Court,this would also be a slap in the face for their Thai judicial system and that famous Thai " face " Sorry, after all these years a couple of young tourists won't cut it and the whole focus of any statement or evidence they give, will be reversed, pick holes in it, tarnish their reputation as unreliable in an attempt to discredit them. Seen it, time and time again in Thailand.

May 17, 20214 yr Author Its not " Just " 2 tourists Scouse. They were just 2 Murders, there are well over a Dozen known murders and disappearances. And the rape of the British teen all pushed under the carpet. Never one investigated in the last 10 years Or simply botched. For an Island that size its reputation is well documented but something is wrong somewhere. As ukrules has posted its a hell hole and unwary travelers thinking of travelling there should know its reputation.

If some of the 9 have dies on diving trips and been missing in some pot hut for 6 months, then the 2013 incident, tragic as it was, might have been an isolated case.

It is a beautiful laid back island that 99.9% of tourists enjoyed with a very high rate of returning tourists. More farangs have been murderer in Pattaya over the past decade. And plenty of people, farangs included, have got away with murder in Pattaya and there many scapegoats sitting in Pattaya prisons. Singling out Ko Tao is good story "Murder Island" but a bit unreasonable IMO, especially from people who have never been there and seen what a nice place it actually is. Have you ever been there?

As stated in The Thaiger News, 2 tourists were attacked a year before on the same Beach and a young girl was raped in 2018 Tourists have disappeared. How many cases have been reported and ignored or the old Brown Envelope has been delivered. I certainly am in no doubt who is behind these incidents and anyone that knows about these cases will be aware one of the main suspects did a runner from the Island a few hours before the bodies were found and once it had been out of the news he returned. Or as i suspect once the tea money was delivered. Don't forget we are talking about a small Island where tourism is the main income. Pattaya probably does have a higher rate of murders most are Gang related thai on Thai. Its not very often a Tourist is murdered on Jomtien beach or drugged and raped let alone a double murder. What would the outcome be if a Tourist murdered a thai couple after raping one of them of course. it would be on all main TV channels, blaming a Foreigner.

Root Cause : Western Youngsters believing All Cultures & Places are Welcoming & Friendly. No Situational Awareness at all...... Further Example: Two Extremely Naive Norwegian Women Hiking in Morocco.... Beheaded...... ANY indication these murders are tailing off ?

Been there more than once. Won’t go back. Some folks there are far to bent to risk it. And that is very well known on the neighboring islands.
June 5, 20214 yr Author yes Animatic the reputation is well know to older Travelers but the new 1s do not know and are not told to be careful. So many Death's, Rapes and serious assault never investigated. Local po;ice are told confiscate passports and you will have to stay for a court date if any. Most just leave and don't press for charges, thats why there allowed to carry on picking off Tourists.
