Covid vax: If you want Moderna at private hospital you'll have to wait until October

People who want to wait to get Moderna vaccine at a private hospital will have to wait until October before they can be jabbed.

The news about the elective vaccine came from the head of the Private Hospitals' Association Chelerm Hanphanich as reported by PPTV36 yesterday.

Chelern said that importers Zuellig Pharma Ltd would be discussing pricing and importation fees with the Thai GPO, Government Pharmaceutical Organisation.

When this is concluded the GPO will announce a price followed by the PHA who will meet to decide what to charge recipients for each dose.

But the bottom line is it will be four more months before people who elect to go down this route can get a shot.

The Thai government has promised all Thais and foreigners that they can register and receive vaccination provided by them well before this, notes Thaivisa.

That is likely to be locally produced AstraZeneca or Sinovac that has now been formally approved by the WHO.

Other vaccines have also been promised by the government.

Well if it is October should make some people happy.

  • Popular Post

so that goes hope for a limited import of some few thousands per months starting from August.

they PM have already said around 20th of May that they are buying for $34,

after that came anutin tax 11%.

and vax insurance 100b

and 300-500b for each jab.

those promises of 20mln pfizer will end up as bad as moderna.

just talk, and in the meantime forcing people to get sinovac

I am booked in 4th August for AstraZeneca, wife is getting the Sinovac almost certainly before me. Registered at the local clinic, just had to take the passport along.

I suspect on June 7th it will be for all... except for the screened off line with the red carpet and lollipops.

It's been approved by the WHO, so get it into yeh. ????

October?  Maybe.  Also, does this mean anyone, any age or any health condition can get the Moderna vaccine as long as they are willing to pay for it?  Or will a priority of need list be established as well(those who are older and/or with under lying health conditions be first).  Either way I do no see myself or anyone else in my category(under 60 and in overall good health) getting vaccinated anytime in the near future.

I really hope the people who are determined to wait for the vaccines of their choice also aren't the same people clamoring to keep tight restrictions until they are vaccinated.

I am more inclined to stay home as I do now.....

If the numbers out there warrant opening up due to low infections, they will go ahead without my input!

it's 2k a shot and up to 500 for the DR at our local hospital, why would you need to see a Dr? about five thousand all in, so far!

This is fine. Everyone should have the option to stay home if they want to. My comment was more in reference to the people who are scared of Covid, but then also scared of specific brands of vaccines, and so want everyone else to remain restricted until they feel comfortable.

If those people are scared, they should follow your sensible advice and stay home. Or wear two masks, or three masks, or four masks...

This is what you get when the country's two riches men got shares in the vaccine that they will let the masses get. Shame on them.

I know a guy who swears on good authority that's he's getting the Moderna vaccine in 2 weeks at xxxxxxxx Hospital. He's registered and everything. It's a done deal, so he says. Apparently some doses are being privately imported right now, which was what sparked the flurry of "fake news" about Moderna last week. But maybe it's true. I dunno how or by who, but if it's some random dude smuggling vials through customs in his luggage (or elsewhere) I'd be wary.

I'll want Sinopharm inactivated virus vaccine from a private hospital, but only if Immigration twists my arm behind my back and forces me to take it as a requirement to "stay as a temporary visitor for the purposes of keeping my Thai wife out of financial destitution."  Otherwise I'll be giving Covid vaccines a pass until at least 2025.  I want to see long-term epidemiological studies as well as long-term adverse reaction data before getting anywhere near these new tech vaccines.

The risk from getting injected with an unknown jab via something like this is waaaaaaaay higher than the minor risk of a negative Covid outcome or the miniscule risk of a negative outcome from not-your-favorite-vaccine-brand.

Maybe they matched Bill Gate's "philanthropic donations" with their own "philanthropic donations" not that "philanthropic donations" would never ever sway the WHO into a conflict of interest.   ????

Private importation is potentially illegal. The bigger private hospitals would never risk it. Soi clinics on the other hand?

It was already BS before this story. A local hospital which invited interested parties to register, subsequently offered those who had registered Sinopharm at 2000b per dose plus hospital administration routine fees. A total of (estimated) 4600b I concluded and actually invited registered participants to book appointments without telling them the price at that stage of the process. Yesterday the hospital cancelled the whole event as they could not obtain the Sinopharm vaccine from the organization that has acquired the same.

JUst as my Doctor told me on the 17th of May when I saw him.  Looks like a wait for many of us who do not want the Sinovac, Sinopharm, or even the AZ when and if it makes an appearance.

I fail to see why those in a low risk category (healthy young people) would want to expose themselves to vaccines adverse reaction risks regardless of how low we are told those risks are.

Until these vaccines are approved for general use, these vaccines are only approved for "emergency use" as live-trial study data is still being collected for analysis (2021 - 2023) in order to make a case with each country's FDA to allow the future approval for the vaccine's "general use."
Until then you are required to sign an informed consent form acknowledging the vaccine's risks prior to being given the shot.
