Hi guys,

I'm renting a condo for 6 months, and I really like it here. As I'm only vested for 6 months I'm not looking for any major and expensive fixes here, rather something clever and easy.

Problem: the bedroom have an adjacent toilet. That toilet-door have tinted glass making the morning sun (from the toilets 2 ocean-view windows) disturb my sleep. To cover the 2 windows inside the toilet is too big of an operation, so I need some ideas to cover the door. Any takers? ????

I could upload some photos tomorrow so that you can get a better sense of the door/room.

How about using car window tint film?  Get the darkest tint available - the same one Thai drivers use on their windscreens to make sure they cannot see bicycles at night.

You can then peel it off after the 6 months.

Oh, pretty good idea actually. I'll try to do some searches at Lazada tonight for window/glass film. Bless!

If the window is in close proximity, expect it to heat up.

I would suggest light curtain material as this will block some of the sunlight while not trapping in the heat and on top of that you can get used to wearing those night shades as the above poster provided, not to be mistaken or confused with the wife's extra small size bra.

Actually I was thinking of a curtain/blanket as my first option, but I need something to make it stick on either the door or the wall (that's not too much of a damage).

I'll post a picture this evening so you guys can get a better sense. Very humbled by your input so far. Thanks!

Just remember to press the quote button on my reply as I probably won't see it.

I Put this window tint from Lazada on all my afternoon sun facing windows.

This was my first attempt, It does make a big difference IMO.

It was very cheap to buy, but surprisingly hard to apply by myself.

If ceramic car window film is used, it should help reflect the IR heat?  That's how car interiors are supposed to stay cooler with ceramic tinted film.

Or have I just fallen for the advertising spin?

No. you are correct, however unless the tint has UV in it, it will heat up, I say that because I put tint on our homes windows and they heated up, so took them off, as for the car, yes well we got some good stuff and it works with the UV. Went for a US brand and it wasn't cheap, fortunately I got a guy who knew his stuff, slowly slowly one learns that Thailand has everything as in copied, good and bad, but you have to really work out which is not a copy to walk away and then find the good stuff.

I bought some of the window tint from Lazada and fitted it to a total of 6 windows in all.

The photo shows the left side with film, right side without, the mirror effect certainly cuts down the heat and I was satisfied with the results.

But, it was a pain to fit and the air bubbles were difficult to remove fully.

Also good for privacy during the day  , but be aware at nighttime if you turn on the light you can be seen inside as if the film didn’t exist !!

It comes in different sizes and colours, I bought 152cm x 4m and it cost around 970 baht.

Here's two pictures of the door. It doesn't get hot enough, I believe, to endanger some film. It does however light up a full room enough to disturb my sleep.

How would you guys go about? ???? I would rather not drill something up the wall (but I would like some drape/curtain).

Shower curtain type pole that needs no screws or permanent fittings.  Drape material of your choice from it.

Seems like the best solution so far .

Or failing this , one of those simple doorway blinds, can be bought at many places, Big C , DIY stores , 20 baht shops, etc. Self adhesive and cut to size.

Can be held open with a clothes peg if you want daylight during the day.
