June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post To start, I'm the type of person that likes to get up and out early to do my shopping. I do so for many reason; less traffic on the roads and in the stores, I like to 'get in & get out'; avoid those who are always leaving their unattended carts in the middle of the aisles while wondering off looking for something, and to avoid those that stand in the exit doorway reviewing their receipt as if the store bar-code scanners are out to cheat them. Having shopped the same Makro store for 8 years or more I always found it easy to find what I was looking for. However I see that this Makro has decided to move everything around. I could understand it if they expanded the building or purchased new shelves/coolers as to why they rearranged everything, but that is not the case. So why Makro make your repeat customers have to wonder around longer than desired to find what they had always bought before? Perhaps they are thinking that while looking you may buy more? Or do they think that product rotation is needed similar to crop rotation?
June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post Picky, picky? It is called marketing. The world does not revolve around you.
June 11, 20214 yr It's not fun to re-chase everything down.... Makro does do this semi regularly..... There's probably a reason for it - maybe....
June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post This is an example of getting people to post on forums. Thai Visa has many many people travelling around LOS, getting retailers, road builders, Amphurs, etc to change their procedures, move stuff around, generally throw a wrench into the system. In doing so this gets people to come on the Forum and lament the changes, which increases forums revenue as well as the number of people who post. Simple Eh - 555

If it's marketing then why did it take them so long to do? If it's marketing why aren't they stocking newer/different item? Like I said, I have my reasons for questioning what I thought was a convenience, at least for me. Thanks for showing up.....

Totally agree about having to 're-chase'. The Makro I am speaking of has kept everything pretty much in the same location for the past 8 yrs of so. There's been a few changes along the way but nothing compared to what is currently occurring.

June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post No one can control what a major retailer does and why. If it is such a hassle and bothers a person, shop some place else.

I find the traffic and the way many drive a real hassle, should I start using my jet-pack?
June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post It's a technique that supermarkets use , by moving stuff about you have to go and look for it, and in doing so you might spot a product that you had not seen before, it is used to increase sales. it's annoying , but works for the supermarkets. regards worgeordie
June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post Maybe they hired a new "sales specialist" who convinced them that he can increase sales if they shuffle things around. So now you might be that one who leaves your cart unattended, while walking all over the store to find something that was right there... and come back with 50 other things that you noticed while walking around you didn't even realise they had... If you buy 1 product more than before, their mission is accomplished.

Yea its standard supermarket tactic so clients will search more and buy more stuff they normally would not have bought. I can remember doing that as a part timer having to move stuff around in the supermarket was standard so people would see new stuff.

Try going to IKEA for one item.... we have to snake through the whole store both floors (even with the short cuts) just for a bloody cutting board !!! What about Airport Duty free in the UK Airports? I want to get through the security check and go straight to the lounge or a seating area.. Nope... I have to zig sag through a shopping mall first !!! (Bangkok Airports are a pleasure by comparison !!!) As far as moving things around the store, I get it... But blooming eck... when we know exactly what we want its a pain to have to search the whole store. I wanted olives the other day, near the olive oil? nope... preserved foods? nope... I had to ask the staff who took me to the olive oil... Nope... Jars of olives were next to the baked beans !!!! ... I fully understand why... but grrrr sometimes !

There's been a few changes along the way but nothing compared to what is currently occurring. It's not just makro, all these types of stores are if you like, making their aisles the same in each and every store so that if a customer goes from one Makro to the other they can find the products they want in the same aisle as the other previous stores, e.g. sugar aisle 8, spaghetti aisle 14. It's a hassle in the beginning, but with change we adapt, as much as we are hesitant, it's also for store employees when ordering and when unpacking and also going to a different store, everything is or will be the same, part of their training as well, i.e. to remember where things are in case someone ask, e.g. if I was working in a Phuket Makro and then was sent to work at a Phuket Town Makro, (don't know if they have them), it's an example, normally items would be in different aisles, but now that are in the same aisles. Hope that makes sense, peeees me off to, but eventually it will become 2nd nature to you, once again.

June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post I rarely use Macro, but I know that Big C have a highly trained elite team of "Shelf Ninjas" stood by for when I leave. As soon as the security guard sees me mount the trusty motorcycle and leave the grounds he presses a button, bells sound in the stockroom and the "Ninjas" leap into action; the leader grabs a copy of my till receipt from the managers booth amongst the cash till line up, quickly glances at it and barks out his orders. Off the "Ninjas" rush, moving everything which I have bought to a different place in the store. That way, even if I return the next day, I will have to spend fruitless minutes wandering the aisles until I find the sardines which I noticed were on a "buy one get one free" promotion (tins that is not individual fish) are now nestling between the pickled garlic and the boxer shorts! Astonishing attention to detail!
June 11, 20214 yr I'm in the US. Some stores have apps that tell you where things are. And many have online ordering and you can pick up the order outside.
June 11, 20214 yr I was in retail for a number of years back in the States. My stores would do exactly this, rearrange things for no good reason. Sometimes I got excuses like "market research determined this is a more ideal location for the product" or some such BS. I never bought it. I then had one manager finally admit it to me. It's quite simple really. Customers spend more time searching for what they need, and in the process, buy more.
June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post The ones that abandon their half filled trolley in the middle of the aisle to go grab something.... I grab stuff out of their trolley and sit it back on the shelf.

June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post When the worst thing to complain about is the relocation of products within a Makro, you know life is pretty good ????
June 11, 20214 yr If Makro moving things around bothers you so much, perhaps there are deeper issues? Why fret what you have no control over instead of being thankful you have the financial means to grocery shop for whatever you want.
June 11, 20214 yr With supermarkets being so big in area these days and for a few years in fact, I have been saying, why not a floor map showing where categories are located? With everything being computerised, it seems reasonable to me that there could be a digital floor map (with GPS of course); type in any product and get a "road map" from wherever you are from your phone! One still has to walk past any marketing strategies on the way.
June 11, 20214 yr The more you walk the more items you're likely to buy. You'll see something you didn't know you needed.
June 11, 20214 yr As with the Tesco takeover, Makro is going thu a reformation by Mr CPs company to create more shelf space which includes, you guessed it, more CPALL product and far far less imports. Maehia Makro started by moving the eggs.... hiding them between freezers and escalator, next the veggie section got turned 90 degrees and one can barely fit a trolley between the aisles. A reduction in imported product will send more of us to Rimping or Central. No big deal.

Since I shop a three different makro's, all with different layouts, I have found that being able to read the BIG RED AND WHITE SIGNS at the ends of the aisles makes for a quick and pleasant shopping experience.

That logic applies mainly to female shoppers .... If I take the wife with me for 3 items, we'll walk out with 10 or more. Cheaper when I go alone and return with a surprise 4th item, eg bunch of flowers.
