BANGKOK, June 24 (TNA) – Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda formed a committee to investigate the installation of street lamp posts in many areas of Samut Prakan province and assured that wrongdoers would be punished.

The minister said the investigation concerned expensive lamp posts topped with mythical figures in Samut Prakan and the probe committee would cooperate with the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Auditor General.

Any officials who are found guilty will be suspended and prosecuted, Gen Anupong said.

Strange wording, normally they would say "if any wrong doers are found" but on this occasion just go in for the kill ????

Any relatives of officials who are found guilty will be sternly lectured and warned to be more clever next time. Don't blow it!  The gravy train is rather fragile these days.

The crime is not when corrupt officials steal money…..the crime is when corrupt officials don’t share with their corrupt bosses.

I guess that the brown envelopes from the expensive soi number signs, they installed a couple of years ago, have all run dry. In Srinakarin Road they suddenly had to hurry to fix the drains leading water away from Nong Bon reservoir, before the BTS construction team came and dug the whole thing up again.

Note to future officials: if doing this sort of behavior, make sure not to make items bought be in public view. Out of sight, out of mind.
