Unfair - not enough medical staff: Facebook post highlights ongoing struggle with Covid in Thailand

Picture: Sanook

Sanook reported that Thai social media users were busy sharing a story after a picture of a Covid-19 hospital staffer who had fainted outside a ward was posted on Facebook.

The lady had been wearing PPE so long she had passed out, the post claimed.

It said that the staff levels were insufficient to cope and it had been that way ever since the first wave until now.

It mentioned 14 Covid patients and 2 PUI (patients under investigation). There were onlty 3 nurses and two "PN" staff.

They said they had more duties each and every day and "it was just not fair".

The picture of the flaked out nurse was widely shared.

Sanook decided to 'vaseline' out the name of the poster and did not reveal where this had occurred.

ASEAN Now notes that Thailand has strict defamation laws.

Oh give it a rest..... a hospital worker is wearing PPE to protect themselves from infection.  Infected patients usually do not wear PPE,  perhaps a mask.

Didn’t realise ppe causes fainting.

Though if you are going to faint a hospital is as good a place as any to do so I suppose.

Thing is this is only the beginning, with the higher and higher case load. Soon more and more health officials will be exhausted and lack of ICU beds.  They just cant get more nurses and Dr's so this is a losing battle all caused by the idiot goverment that bet all on 1 vaccine.

Not to mention opening for Songkran and the Krystal club. Its just a sad state of affairs.

Probably a mask?

They will be happy and all will forgiven once they receive their 1% pay rise.

The intent of personal protective Equipment  is to  protect the user from being exposed to liquids and aerosols. this means that the  material does not "breath". Take some garbage bags and wear them. Do it while rushing back and forth without time to  rest.

Last plAce  a sick person wants to be is in thai hospital swamped with Covid patients.

I thought it was to prevent an infected person spreading droplets and infecting others.........wearing a mask does little to protect the wearer.

Disagree with you on last point, didn’t read the lecture at start after reading initial patronising tone.

Prayut Chan o Cha and his cohorts  who miserably fail to manage this Covid fiasco should go and the sooner the better the trouble is that there is no one else out there who can save this country form the mismanagement that is going on...

My mistake ....for some reason I read the original comment as mask wearing rather than PPE..........however I find  the...... "Oh give it a rest" as totally unnecessary and rather unpleasant to be honest.

Could they not use some of the 6,000,000 tourism workers for some of the mundane stuff to ease them slightly ?

This is what happens when corruption is rife in the educational system.

You will get over it, try a glass of warm milk!

Interesting that the person who has fainted has not been put in the recovery position!  I shall not be going to that hospital if their medical staff do not know even basic First Aid!

Facebook photo shoots always take priority in Thailand.

You would have to pay them, and even at minimum wage levels that would disrupt some cash flows...

Picture on the left appears to show the person checking for a femoral artery pulse so hopefully they know the basics but, same as you, surprised they didn't put their colleague in the recovery position.

Maybe she woke up and said she was ok...........or perhaps they thought she was dead.

The PP gear gets very hot inside as it is designed not to allow any airflow.

In Thailand in non aircon areas it must get stifling hot.

All Government medical staff all around the world are overwhelmed at present.

She was more than likely dehydrated as well

In the UK the "English Roses" in this gear are dropping like flies & now have to have a 2 hour break after wearing for 5 hours

Any health care system would be feeling the strain, Thailand maybe has more underlying issues than it might like to let on.

Rather basic PPE.  No gloves or shoes.

Probably worn the same set day in day out for days as  well.

PPE is not just a mask. PPE includes gowns, gloves, shoe covering, eye and face protection.  The PPE with exception of mask is used to protect health care worker. The mask protects both the worker and the patient. In the infectious wards, staff wear N/KN95 masks when available, which reduce the wearer inhalation exposure to aerosol. The more exposed, the more likely to become infected.

Wearing PPE is tough on the staff. You can't just quickly have a drink of water, have a bite to eat in between or go to the loo. Normally, you would have 2 nurses p patient in ICU. You go and do the job before u make stupid comments.

And what was stupid about my comment. Are you so arrogant that you don’t allow people to admit they didn’t know something?
