Chief of the Ban Deua police Pol Col Jaruwat Suriyathip in Kaset Somboon district of Chaiyaphum in Thailand's Isaan region received a report of a mass shooting of a family at a house in Ban Yang sub-district yesterday afternoon.

At the scene was evidence of 8 shots from a 9mm gun.

Four people in the same family were dead and found shot all over the house. There was the house owner Wanpen, 50, Somsak, 50, and their daughter Sunisa, 30 and son in law Adul, also 30.

The shooter was soon identified as Saichon, aged 35, a man from another village in the same district.

Inquiries with relatives were fruitless then news came in that he had been seen at a religious affairs office nearby.

Police found that he had shot himself dead at the office. He was still grasping a 9mm CZ 75B gun in his right hand.

The shooter's elder sister Kanika, 38, said her brother had had an argument over a pump with the family and this had led to a fist fight and action by the police in June.

They were due to discuss a resolution of the matter.

The aunt of the shooter Pinmanee told Thai Rath that her nephew had worked in Rayong but suffered from stress and family problems and had come home and had been treated for mental problems with medication over a year and more.

She said that he owned an adjacent agricultural property to the dead family and they had argued about a pump after his land got flooded.

I watched this on the news last night and a relative of the slain family said that they had previously reported to the police that they had been threatened with a gun and the police had done nothing about it.

The argument about the pump was the "tipping point" (straws and camels backs) and not the cause of the killings - there was a mental problem issue as well as long term family relationship problems (underlying circumstances).. That was the cause!

Yes, yet a again a mistake from the police who does not know how to do their job. It is not until people start to sue these (criminals) in uniform that it will stop. I'm not a police man but see at least 100+ things a day that are illegal or not conform to the law, tinted windows, red number plates at night, no helmets etc etc.

Not just Thailand.  You only need to read the news from around the world to see there is no exclusivity on lunacy.  Although the post earlier this year about the Thai woman who burned down her own home to prevent her home from being repeatedly robbed did seem to hit a new high point.

Lunatic + gun = dangerous. Almost every guy in Thailand has a gun, combine that with the ever present fragile ego syndrome, and you have many disasters in the making.

Thai police are the smartest in the world. They've worked out that they get paid whether they work or not, so they don't bother working. Simples.

Who in his right mind would compare inability to act after there's been a report of someone being threatened with a gun VS tinted windows or red numbers at night (which is a mere bureaucratic procedure which in no way threatens road safety) <deleted> .!

I think you miss his point. Which was that the police don't respond to anything.

They rarely do anything unless you pay them money up front.

If they can't take care of the basic how they can deal with the more complicated stuff? Nothing to compare.

The land still gets flooded, but he's not there to worry about it anymore, and the family aren't there to do anything about it anyways.

Such a tragedy.

I notice a baby's rocking hammock in the picture above which could mean the tragedy is extended .

And There, and Everywhere.

They should have alleged a 112 incident. As in: "He was waving a gun , officer, and threatening the institution!"

Problem instantly solved. I'm surprized it's not misused even more than it is!
