You really want a Wuhan style lockdown ? Where people get locked in their rooms or dragged away to who knows where because they speak against the government. Or you ban domestic flights and allow millions of infected people to travel around the world on international flights. It doesn't matter if it started in a wet market or a lab.  It Started from Wuhan CHINA and they failed to control it, That's the point and they should have kept it there. How does the Thai government reward this? Buy nothing but useless China vaccines . Somebody in Thailand is getting major kickbacks

Prakit Vathesatogkit has come to the defence of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine, saying that the negative criticism of the vaccine is “unfair and biased”.

 

As an expert on lung diseases at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, and a former dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the university, Dr. Prakit said yesterday (Sunday) on social media that, although he is not a frontline medic treating COVID-19 patients, he has been closely following the performance of medical personnel, especially those specialised in lung diseases, with great concern.

 

In the current critical situation, he said he has been urging people to get vaccinated, adding that he was inoculated with AstraZeneca vaccine in March, because he is over 60.

Yes, but that's considering it to be a binary outcome. Either you get it or you don't. It doesn't consider severity of the infection. All the vaccines reduce average severity.

Flight are being banned around domestic locations because there is a national health crisis but one can still go on holidays to Phuket and Koh Samui.They fly three times a day to Samui?For 5 passengers?Did the DDW (Department of Dim Wits) authorise this?

I have been trying to find the piece that mentions that flights to Phuket and Samui are allowed despite all other domestic flights being grounded! They will do anything to open up to tourism during these troubled times. An absolute joke, or it would be if it was not so serious!

It’s the better than nothing argument again. It does acknowledge that mRNA vaccines give better protection. But isn’t it all water under the bridge now? I thought government policy is now I shot sinovac, one shot AZ, or nothing?

Official figures a few weeks ago where about 160k had been granted exemption to leave the country. That figure does not include travel in NZ travel bubble.

That's just my take on it.

I agree in part, inevitably having to let the virus run it's natural course, provided that hospitals still have capacity to admit patients to ICU (or custom built field hospitals) and ample oxygen supplies.  This will offset preventable deaths.  In the meantime, staggered lockdowns, when numbers ramp back up, give breathing space for hospitals to cope.  As always, the most vulnerable in the community should have priority to effective vaccines. Once enough people have had the jab, let the virus rip and open up.  

At some point, I am guessing not too far away now, governments need to weigh up the economic devastation and financially ruined lives versus opening up with a partially vaccinated population.  It must be reaching (or already has reached) a critical juncture (how this is measured, I have no idea).  

What that vaccinated percentage is, I am guessing something measured along the lines of those countries who are now opening back up.  

This severe delaying of vaccine rollouts will definitely cause more financial ruin, suicides and COVID deaths (as well as deaths from other illnesses due to all ICU beds being taken up with COVID cases).

Infection, hospitalization, and death are all binary outcomes. Many studies measure the efficacy of all three and report them separately. Hospitalization and death are measures of severity.

 

You could also define more levels of severity like ICU, intubation, even 'above average severity'.  What you will find is all vaccines are helpful, but all vaccines are not the same.
