Thai frontline medic’s heartfelt plea to Prime Minister Prayut

Thammasat field hospital has asked Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to set up a war room, so he meet with his ministers and senior officials every morning to assess the latest COVID-19 situation and to deploy measures to deal with any problems immediately, instead of meeting every Tuesday via video conference and working from home.

A Facebook post on Saturday asks whether any minister has ever visited frontline medical personnel, while they are working non-stop in emergency wards, to find out what they lack or need and to help them solve the problems, “or wait until they (medics) write a report and submit it through the normal channels the next week for acknowledgment by those who implement policy the next month, so that the problems can be fixed in the next budgetary year?”

“People are dying like falling leaves, on the road, at home or anywhere, without anyone to tend to them. Everyone is afraid of getting infected. The hotline system does not offer any help to the patients because all the hospitals are fully occupied. Stretchers and oxygen tanks are scattered along the walkways or in car parks. If this is not a war zone, what is? We have declared an emergency situation for almost two years now and the situation today is most urgent.”

Well they did answer their own question:

"Everyone is afraid of getting infected. The hotline system does not offer any help to the patients because all the hospitals are fully occupied. "

Maj.gen. PM knows the problem all too well, and being afraid for his own life chose to be "working from home".

Perhaps solitary submarine would be preferred...but these hard time he needs to make sacrifices too, so home it is.

For those that don’t know how hard these nurses are working, I’m currently dating one (although we don’t have much time to spend together) and the hours these women are working is absolutely insane.  12-16 hour shifts are typical and 6 day workweeks (four 12 hour shifts and two long shifts of 16 hours) are pretty much the norm due to short staffing.

A typical day off is getting off at 7am after a 12 hour night shift, getting back to their dorm by 9am (or if they are fortunate, they can sleep in an empty room in the hospital) and then having to be back to work the next morning at 7am.

Many are burned out and would love to quit, but family obligations, due to job losses affecting other family members keep them trudging onwards as they are the now the primary breadwinners for their families.  And yet, they still seem to be able to keep a smile on their face.

I don’t know how they do it.

So, if you find yourself in a hospital, please be nice to them…they are close to their breaking points.

The world the PM dies not understand. To him people dying at home or on the streets is fake news and must be investigated and for reporting this. He and gis cabinet are lost......all medical staff need support.

There’s a fair chance that the war room is already set up, but it won’t be about Covid.

Same  can be said for  immigration or renewing car tax where going to some office is required, about 50 yrs behind the times and then the offices are way over staffed with imbeciles gawking at their  phones being as unhelpful as  possible.

Some of the news coming from Thai TV news outlets about what is going on in hospitals are is shocking. I would strongly suggest that expats watch Thai TV for the morning or evening news around 6am or 8pm. Even if you do not speak Thai you will understand from the pictures the chaos unfolding.  Thailand's health system has collapsed. Built by taksin, destroyed by Prayut

No problem:

The world the PM does not understand. To him people dying at home or on the streets is fake news and must be investigated and people should be arrested for reporting this. He and his cabinet are lost......all medical staff need support.

Do you understand now or should we try stick figure diagrams for you?

To assist you Steve. I will sumarize what I think the poster was saying.

Medical personal are dying, vaccine roll out has been a total failure, hospitals are overwhelmed and collapsing, people are lacking money for basic needs and foods, suicide rates have sky rocketed, protests are growing,  public debt has grown exponentially.

Well done Prayut. Not bad your have certainly turned the country around. Sadly it is now pointing in the wrong direction.

Thanks for posting. A few years ago I stayed in a local hospital here with dengue, I was amazed how hard and long they worked. Can't imagine what it's like now.

You can set up any war room, you want, ain't gonna make a difference, as incompetence is still present, be it generals or thai health experts.

Now we see, wait, the world sees, because most of the people around here never believed thai covid figures, the real extent of the disaster and what Thailand actually can do.

Thanks @TheAppletons for assisting in fixing my post.  I failed to check it before sending it, and trusted the phone I was using to actually send what I wrote instead of the auto correct feature that decided it knew better than I did.....lol.  I am a native English speaker, but mistakes are made by fat fingers and a failure to double check the words to ensure they were typed right by fat fingers on a tiny phone.

Some of the videos of the patients in beds on the sidewalk, or other partial-outdoor settings are disturbing.

Sadly, with the 'Fake News' laws and the 'do not frighten the citizens' laws, someone may soon be arrested.

They'll all want another medal for valour in the face of the enemy, AKA sick and poor Thais.

Most of the donated Pfizer should go to these healthcare workers as a booster.  They deserve it.  Too bad Thailand didn’t join Covax last year.  The Delta variant is a game changer.

Not quite the rosy picture that Anutin & Prayut paint.

War room?

Sorry but Prayut had declared (2017?) that he is no longer a soldier but a politician. He is no longer a Tiger of the East but like a Rabbit of the West.

but last week Prayut said he didn't want anybody to die at home....maybe he was not updated on the current/reality situation  555

P.S:  sarcasm intended

How can that be? Dumb and Dumber had been congratulating themselves with the miniscule figures for almost a year and declaring to the world Thailand was miraculously almost Covid free due to their policies......

Unless god forbid they were being extremely economical with the truth and it was all a ridiculous facade.
