Popular Post webfact
PPTV36 - a national media outlet - reported on the fallout of the murder of 57 year old Swiss government employee Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf and its impact on tourism at the Phuket Sandbox. A suspect was arrested within a couple of days of the discovery of the body of the victim, has reportedly admitted killing her and been taken on a re-enactment to the scene of the crime, the Ao Yon waterfall. The media said that the case would undoubtedly have an effect on tourism despite the swift arrest of the suspect that would help with confidence. The Phuket Sandbox started on July 1st with the first month seeing about 14,000 tourists visit the island. The media had carried out a survey of restaurants and businesses in Phuket with operators fearing further economic impact and restaurants already noting that tourists had stopped coming to their establishments in the wake of the crime. Meanwhile provincial governor Narong Wunchew, said that areas that were vulnerable to problems would be prioritised for security upgrades. He asked that the public be the "eyes and ears" of the authorities to ensure tourist safety. Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yutthasak Suphasorn said he was terribly sorry for what had happened and had sent a condolence letter to the family via the Swiss embassy. He thanked the police for their quick work but said it was too early to say what effect the case would have on tourism. Reservations on August 5th were 7,000 nights, then on 6th and 7th 6,000 nights. Yutthasak said that his organisation would be contacting tourism agencies worldwide to gauge the impact of the case and work on an appropriate recovery strategy. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-08-09 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1

It is more likely that many folks have stopped going to restaurants because they cannot even drink a beer or two with their meal, due to alcoholic drinks having been banned at restaurants recently. 28

But I believe what they are saying is that 7k rooms were occupied on 5th, this then dropped to 6k rooms on 6th. It’s not 6k additional rooms on 6th, most will be a carry over from 5th. Just that overall, after new guests come, old guests leave, there is reduction of 1k. if all rooms have double occupancy, that means there are 14 k tourists in Phuket on 5th, falling to 12k tourists on the 6th. Of course, some rooms may be single occupancy and some may be family rooms, but you get the drift. 1 1 2

As a follow on from the post, and without detracting from the original sad story of the poor lady, we have a few small eating establishments in Phuket.I see the somewhat inflamatory headline as being potentially misleading. I am not able to speak on behalf of said "tourists" that stayed at home, but am happy to provide feedback that this last weekend was one our busiest of the year so far. The outlet in Patong, in particular, was generally full to the currently allowed limits and guests were, in the main, tourist "people" made up of singles, couples, small groups and families. This observation, of course, only reports details from the outlets that I know. Finally I wonder how they managed to get the information from the tourists if they are not going out and staying in their rooms? Just a thought. 8

Just a thought. This was good. You really got a good point in the last question. Regarding the observation, I would say it must be quite correct. If so many people got <deleted> scared of being killed or raped, it must show in equal percentage on all establishments. Otherwise we will also have the result that the tough tourists are choosing special establishments.

natway09
So Thailand is the only country in the world where women get raped & murdered ? As terrible as it is why would a single lady go wandering into the bush alone in a strange country? I could name 30 countries where I would not go into the bush alone in particular with unemployment due to Covid being so high. The fringe people are desperate to get their hands on a few bob
Popular Post Scouse123
If anybody with the exception of those who live here long term and want to avoid a Bangkok hotel room for two weeks, have actually booked to stay in Phuket for an actual holiday when everything is shut down and basically no alcohol or entertainment; they must have lost their marbles! To come to a country, take pre covid tests, risk of 14 days quarantine if anybody travelling on the plane tests positive, at your own expense, be fully vaccinated, take more covid tests in Phuket at your own expense once you arrive, then the same procedure when you are going back to your country, then to find nothing open when you get here and the place like the Marie Celeste!,................... you need your head examining! Why not just go to the coast in your own country? 12 2
