BANGKOK (NNT) - Several free COVID-19 testing sites are in operation in Bangkok, as daily new case numbers remain the highest in Thailand. The city today operated six free testing sites across the capital, with walk-ins accepted at a testing site in Ratchathewi.

The COVID-19 testing center at a sporting plaza on Rama VI road, Ratchathewi district is currently providing up to 500 COVID-19 tests a day, with 300 slots reserved for those who have made their appointments on the QueQ application, and 200 slots open for walk-ins.

For walk-ins, daily test tickets are given out for the 200 available test slots on a first come first serve basis at 6:30 a.m. each day.

A health official at the testing site said the venue sees many people coming to get COVID-19 tests each day, which is a good sign the general public is actively involved with the country’s COVID-19 prevention measures.

People coming for their tests have praised the attentive work of health officials who help ensure orderliness and flow. They have thanked and expressed support for all involved in helping the people.

The test center here provides free COVID-19 tests for anyone aged 5 years and above until 31st August. Tests are made using antigen test kits first, that provide results in up to 30 minutes. Those who have tested positive in their antigen test, or those with a negative result but with suspicious symptoms, are swabbed again in a confirmation test using the RT-PCR method.

Health officials here can prescribe Favipiravir antiviral or green chiretta capsules for the patients, based on the discretion of an on-site doctor.

So it takes a trained health official to keep people in line. Why not security/policemen? Then the health official can get on with jabbing.

Not sure testing helps now

Try vaccines (not from the CCP)

The CCP vaccines were actually quite effective against China and Italy strains and have saved many lives. But of course with Alpha and especially Delta, their efficacy is much lower, as Indonesia points out. But then again, even Pfizer is only 39% effective against transmission of Delta variant, from research done in Israel.

Hence you are right, the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccinations should probably stop unless they are built on Delta virus. But they were an effective filler for a period of time when nothing else was available.

PS: Pfizer is mostly made in India and China.

I rather read " dozens of testing site are in operation now" and not several, i mean how hard is to get someone to stick a wooden stick up the nose? you don't need a medical degree for it, do a drive in and out sites, faster,  easier and more safer than the mass gathering of people...

Quite common here to read of "Racing to.... do this or that", as if that always was an admirable quality.

If they had competent, educated people in charge they could have  planned ahead for contingencies and prepare in advance.

The virus has been around for at least a year and a half. Plenty of time to deal with "what if...?' contingencies.

So what real good will the testing do?  If positive test results, are the persons whisked off to a quarantine facility?  Are the people told to self quarantine in their domicile?  do you really think they would be isolated at home and not come into any contract with family, friends, wife, etc?  If they test negative,  so what?  Will they go back day after day and test again?

Why not vaccinate the people that gather there for testing?

Lack of vaccines?

The wave started around 1st April and now in month number 5 "Bangkok races to test residents". Too little too late you useless prats. Its been well know that Banhkokians coildn't get tests because either there weren't enough test spots or hospitals were full. The disease is rampant and this administration have failed completely to act either to measure the disease spread or to provide an effective vaccine roll out. This mess will continue on well into next year at the rate things are progressing, except of course for the poor people who have already died because of the incompetence shown or who have financially gone to the wall.

Testing is not going to help the only thing testing will do is increase the number of people that tested positive.  I am sure that there are many people that have not shown anything that are all but locked in at home (where can you go?) that are not having an affect.

If you want to scare the people mass testing will do it.

Media needs to key on one thing and one thing only DEATHS.
