Neo Pattaya: The manicured shape of things to come? - as huge tree is ripped out

Comment was rife on the page of Pattaya Watchdog who published pictures of the manicured future of beach road.

 

The orderly palms - from abroad - and wide walkways of Neo Pattaya were being traversed by the elderly, a young foreign couple and a man being pushed in a wheelchair.

 

My! How Pattaya had changed!

 

Yes, said the commentary this was orderly and neat. But long standing trees were being cut down to make way for this.

 

They feared that old root systems would be ripped out adding to soil and beach erosion.

Meanwhile Manager reported on a story of a huge tree being felled in the area apparently under the supervision of the owner of Nong Nooch gardens.

 

They described Kamphol Tansatja as a "rich person of Chinese heritage" (jao sua) and said he should come clean as to why the ancient tree was felled.

What a bunch of neanderthals who think that by chopping trees they are beautifying something, that poor tree stood there for at least 30-40 years until a smart ar*se decided that it's time for it to go, what a shame...

Or maybe the ever spreading root system would be /is interfering with underground infrastructure

Hard to make Pattaya any uglier but they have put their collective little heads together , scraped up a an  I.Q. insufficient to the task , and come up with this  gem of a tourist pulling idea.

 

But the amazing Thailand thing about this is they got paid to dream it up .

Replacing them with non natives, and frond dropping trees which probably will not provide food for native birds. Was the idea of palms run by the Dept of Environment, or does someone's cousin own a tree importing company?

As far as I know you need a permit from the forestry department to fell any trees in Thailand, especially in public areas. I wonder if Pattaya City Hall have obtained these permits??

Fast becoming a concrete version of Bangkok with sh_ty beach and water.

 

Another oppitunity lost to make it truly amazing and different.

I guess can't dig up the beach road again since it's just finish for this time so I guess them came up whit this brilliant ide to cut down the trees in stead to fill up all this brown envelopes.

I'm always amazed at how Thais NEVER ask a farang for an opinion about how to attract more farangs to Pattaya. They would lose face if they did that. But ONLY a farang will know what other farangs seek in a holiday location. It is NOT removing shade trees, allowing scams and cheaters to continue their work, poor service at restaurants and hotels, and above all, assuming that all farangs are so rich that they won't mind paying for poor quality services and rooms while being regerred to as "dirty farangs" by government officials. Short sighted and doomed to fail. TIT.

No one will ever admit it. But Patayas main attraction was it sheer decadence, walking Street and a sex supermarket. The sea is polluted and a brown green colour. Hundreds of thousands of scuba divers have trashed the reefs in and scared all the fish away.. So what will be the new attraction?

The palms look terrible & could be anywhere in the warm world.

The charm of the big trees (I know some need to be removed because of danger)

should have been planned aroud by the designers & many kept.

The soldier like palm tree design paving  looks like my Grandchilds work

Yes to planting shade trees--everywhere, not just Beach Road.  No to removing a single tree anywhere, unless it is in some way a hazard.

So let me get this straight ... The answer whether legal or otherwise is to cut a mature shade producing tree down. Seems to me that what is needed to beautify Pattaya is more street trees not less. A land with myriad native palm species that can grow next to the sea (non-coconut fruit bearing) and these clowns are importing palms?! I do like the idea of wheelchair friendly access though. I mean, after all don't ambulatory challenged folks deserve access to ladyboys botties, and other forms of happy ending like the rest of us upright falangs?

LOL. IMO that is the real reason for every scheme dreamed up by city hall. Have they ever completed a project that didn't become a ruin, like the marina? Even the present promenade has collapsed a few times because it wasn't built properly.

They existed long ago, from when Pattaya was a small place. I doubt they were imported. No idea as to the species, but they grew in sandy soil and stabilized the beach.
