Car Fire on Borommaratchachonnani Elevated Road Causes Traffic Problems for Motorists
A car fire on the outbound Borommaratchachonnani Elevated Road, Bangkok on the afternoon of November 27, caused some chaos for motorists as flames not only destroyed the vehicle but also spread to a safety barrier, which started to collapsed and rained debris onto the busy road below. The incident, reported at approximately 16:55 by the Rama 199 Radio Communication Centre, prompted an immediate response from firefighters and rescue teams. The fire occurred in the Sala Thammasop Subdistrict, causing significant disruption in the Thaweewattana District. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered the reported as diesel engine car completely engulfed in flames. The driver and passengers had safely got out of the car when the fire was first noticed coming from the engine compartment. The intense heat had spread to the elevated road’s safety barrier, causing it to give way. As sections of the barrier fell, large pieces of burning debris landed on the lanes below, creating chaos among motorists attempting to avoid the fiery fragments. Despite the alarming situation, quick action by authorities prevented further incidents. Police promptly diverted traffic around the affected area while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. It took 15 minutes to extinguish the flames using 2 water hose-lines, from the attending fire trucks. Witnesses described scenes of panic as drivers swerved to dodge falling debris. “It was terrifying to see pieces of the road barrier on fire, coming down like missiles,” one motorist said. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities were able to clear the area without additional incidents. The burnt-out vehicle was reduced to a charred shell, and cleanup crews worked to remove the fallen debris and assess damage to both the elevated road and the highway below. Authorities evaluated the damage to the elevated road to ensure it remains safe for use. The investigation into the fire continues. Pictures and video from responders. -- 2024-11-28 My Movie.mp4 -
