Who wants those miserable bastards back ?????? They spend little or no money. Push for western/European tourists.

Someone (maybe on this forum, so all credit to you) said the aim was to reduce the availability of free shade and seating, forcing people to rent seats and sunshades from the traders on the beach.

If a tree is dying then replace it but most of those trees are still growing and doing what they are supposed to  do.   The money that is going to be wasted in this tree thing is ridiculous.

  • In Thailand many new expensive projects are launched, with the main goal to line the pockets of the involved politicians.

Why would anyone want to come to a carbon copy of any plastic resort in the world, when they have exactly the same thing on their doorsteps? A taste of the orient? Where? Thank goodness I came here when you could get a taste of the orient. These planners are clowns. Destroying everything !! ????

The plan seem to be make every major city in every part of the world totally identical.? Rip out the charm and culture and replace with McD's, Starbucks, glass and chrome shopping malls, etc.  ????

I think these planners get their ideas from the magazines you find in Dentists waiting rooms?

The authority have also said that some fell on tourists. The mayor wanted beautification.

The mayor just wants another project to justify some spending.

Just paint that  concrete blue so you have another park. ????

So they want to upgrade the Promenade so that, instead of being hit by mere branches, you will be able to be hit by entire trees falling over. Well done!

Most of the existing palm trees on the beach appear to be coconut palms, which means danger from falling coconuts or work required to remove them before they become a danger. I was told that more people die from coconuts falling on their heads than from shark attack. Maybe replace the trees with sharks.

I do not think it is the people with the umbrellas that are motivating this but the people that are selling the new trees and the money they will make.

Let's please get 100% clear on this......When the say NEW TREES  they mean  shadeless PALM TREES and only shadeless PALM TREES......Not even coconut trees......No.............Trees mean  shadeless PALM TREES and absolutely no other kind of tree......

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

PALM TREES

And no other kind of tree EVER....

Why do people always have to mess with things instead of leaving them as they are? Those old trees look way better than a row of newly planted palms that offer no shade whatsoever! Everything the guy said in his post is true!

Exactly, and maybe road resurfacing and replacing the drains has been done to death so had to come up with new "schemes". Will the next be an automatic watering system and directional drilling to lay the pipes?

the only infrastructure in Pattaya that is world class are the foreign built and owned hotels and grounds.  The city itself maintained by local authority is an utter disgrace - nepostism greed and corruptions sees to that in a never ending catalog of budgets and failures going back decades

Yes, the place is a ghetto, I’ve seen cleaner and much better in Rio. A shanty Town that is a shame to Thailand, I’ll never forget walking on 2nd road towards the temple from Central, and seeing the rats running round in those cheap clothes and souvenir shops. The drains, the pavements (!!) the buildings, all needs knocking down and rebuilt , new road planning with no parking whatsoever , widen the pavements making it impossible except for a few bus stops. First things first, leave the beach alone, a clean up is all that’s needed and maintenance. Anyone who says they shouldn’t change Pattaya need their head read !

Maybe i am one of the few , but i think it looks nice(if it will look like that in any way when finished) . People go to the beach to sit in the sun and the vendors with their umbrellas have busines renting them out . People that think it's to hot will go to the shopping malls or other shops allong beachroad so also generating business . But that's just my opinion .

Is the correct answer. Anyone who thinks this is being done for the benefit of those who own beach chairs and umbrellas is plain wrong. Those operators cannot abide the people at City Hall.

It is done for the benefit of Nong Nooch and those who award them their contracts. There is an ongoing, mutally beneficial relationship in place, nudge nudge, wink wink.

I come here to get away from that kind of <deleted>. Give me Thailand of 20 (or more) years ago and I  will keep returning but if it's the same as Spain I needn't bother.

In a broader picture, the removal and replacement with palms is counter-productive with regard to climate change.

Case in point is Miami Beach!

Miami Beach has a new plan that shifts the balance of tree cover from palms towards shade-giving species that offer relief from climate change. Specifically, the resulting tree canopy is more resilient to sea-level rise, saltwater intrusion and rising temperatures.

https://www.treehugger.com/miami-beach-to-swap-out-palm-trees-5116506

So Pattaya's plan is backwards.

It should be adding more durable shade trees and replacing existing distressed/dying trees with more durable trees for climate change and better beach-goer comfort and safety.

Tits like coconuts and sparrows like bread crumbs.

And when you leave the beach turn right come out of the water, turn left, turn right it is still a <deleted>hole, when it rains the place will still be flooded and all the trash will end up in their Miami the idea becomes a black hole so the officials can continue over and over to fix it up and skim off the top from these projects.  First let's not take such a big project let's start small like maybe fixing a pothole in the road one time that would be really nice!????

It will all look nice and neat and tidy for the air-conditioned coach loads of Chinese tourists driving past on Beach Road, while the farangs and Thais wanting to enjoy a shady spot by the sea for an hour will simply have to roast in the sun, or grease the palms of the deck chair mafia. But as long as the Chinese tourists are happy, that's all the mayor cares about, the Pattaya City vaccination programme (as opposed to the national one) shows that he's completely unaware that there are such creatures as farangs actually living in his city.

On your last point, the mayor is as aware that farangs live in his city as he is soi dogs live there.

Pattaya is no Miami be sure of that !

Do a makeover of Beach Road something like Naypyitaw, Myanmar.  Nice and tidy.

I wonder what they thought back when they planted them.if anything alot smarter than the one who wants to pull them all down now.A bit of shade is needed for everyone, someone to rake up the leaves on the beach is really  not that hard

When they going to remake Miami Vice? Supercars and drugs and cops, Pattaya has it all for real!

Very loosely "Miami"-inspired. The place will never approach the look of Miami South Beach. image.png.9478f8e778508647bf99d77b7b04be09.png

So have they forgot to blend in the long awaited Sky-Train in these futuristic sketches or?
