Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday said the night time curfew in place in 29 COVID-19 ‘dark red’ provinces, which includes Prachuap Khiri Khan and Hua Hin, could be shortened if the COVID-19 situation continues to improve.

Prime Minister Prayut said the any change to the curfew, which is in place between 9pm and 4am, will depend on the number of infections, fatalities and other metrics related to the pandemic.

The prime minister said he knew the curfew was affecting entertainment establishments such as pubs, bars and other night spots.

It has nothing to do with any silly curfew, you have not allowed them to open at all, full stop.

More pathetic excuses from a totally incompetent Czar.

I think it is understandable that entertainment venues are still closed. They are the most risky businesses in respect of Covid transmission. If they open them then the fight against Covid will be officially over.

They've already got the white flag of surrender on deck, these measures are merely prepping us minions for when it actually gets raised.

It helps curb illigal parties and open pubs (illigal) but just extending it a bit to 10 or 11 would still do that and give people more freedom.  But seeing that they are giving up why not open pubs too. Just watch and see what happens. I don't even have to wonder what it will do.

I thought they were closed due to a different order?

Nonsense. The canning factories, the construction sites, the millions who have been allowed leave Bangkok, and travel all over the nation, and the thousands who have been allowed to illegally cross over from Burma are the real danger. Very minimal transmission in a bar scene. Nightclubs, yes. Bars that are not crowded, no. And restaurants that serve alcohol, almost no risk at all. Just pain, suffering, and economic deprivation inflicted upon the people, and further prevention of fun and some much needed recreation.

What Thailand needs right now, in regard to policy, are some qualified and intelligent adults in the room, making the decisions.

There's no chance of that happening at all.

Bangkok, Hua Hin, Samui and more. There were enough examples already that bars or other entertainment venues spread Covid. It cannot work. People go there for socializing and because they drink something they cannot use masks. And to make the matter worse some people like bar hopping. So they don't stick to one place. And if one of them has Covid he might bring it to many bars.

One thing we know for sure is that COVID will spread quickly and effectively, whether the bars are open or not.

We know that for sure because all bars, etc have been closed for some time and COVID remains.

Hardly. How many Thai people regularly frequent entertainment venues; particularly if they have to work? Covid is being spread by the normal daily human interaction involved in shopping, working and everyday life. The SkyTrain is probably far more dangerous than any well managed restaurant or bar. Lockdowns are one of those seemingly bright ideas that in reality achieve little in the long run while being weapons of economic mass destruction.
