PHUKET: Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow in Phuket yesterday promised Phuket officials would receive everything they need to combat the spate of COVID-19 infections across the island “to bring peace of mind to local residents and build confidence among tourists”.

“The government is ready to [provide] support with medicines, vaccines and ATK test kits, as requested by Phuket Province [the provincial government],” Mr Supattanapong told a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday afternoon (Sept 10).

“Especially the materials and equipment that will be used in the operation to increase the number of hospital beds for red-coded patients, yellow-coded patients and to build more field hospitals to give people peace of mind and confidence in the readiness of medical personnel and the public health system of Phuket,” he said.

No way for residents and not for tourists!

Enough is enough. Go the swedish/denmark way. It's the only way out of this economic collapse on hkt.

They are sailing straight into the eye of a storm if they think the goal is to eliminate cases. Good luck with that one. Australia has given up on its zero Covid policy and even New Zealand is struggling with it. Phuket has no hope of eliminating the virus.

How about being more transparent? You lockdown an area that I live 2km away from I'd like to see the details how many were tested positive,

The officials on Phuket pleaded  for the sandbox to reopen the island .Lots of hype and lies to lure a few hundred misguided tourists to the island under false safety assurances .Now the government has agreed to do what it takes to clean up the mess .

How about clearing out the greedy people who where clearly wrong to open the Island and put local residents in danger with false assurances and lies.

So the better idea would have been to do a hard lockdown and prevent the local residents from leaving their homes? The problem certainly isn’t the tourists.
