‘Make peace with Sinovac’ if Thais wants to get back to normal, official says

Thais will have to make peace with the use of the Sinovac vaccine if they want the country to return to normal, a public health official told Thai Enquirer on Tuesday.

 

Infection numbers fell below 10,000 cases for the first time in weeks on Tuesday as the country prepared for more relaxation of quarantine rules and the capital rushed towards a November 1 reopening.

 

The lowering numbers was in-part due to the inoculation efforts of the government and the use of a Sinovac + AstraZeneca cocktail, according to an official at the Ministry of Public Health.

Why do Thais have to make peace with Sinovac at the grossly inflated price of B1,700, which is probably only marginally effective, when better alternatives with credible stage 3 trials peer reviewed in reputable journal can be obtained for a fraction of the price?

Can we see the research results please. How do these numbers compare to the Control Group who did not get anything, or the group who got a placebo? I sure hope you aren't pulling these numbers out of your ***.

From everything I've read, I WOULD believe the notion that a vaccine regimen of one dose of Sinovac followed by one dose of AZ is more effective against the Delta variant than the prior regimen of two Sinovac doses for Thais under the government's vaccine program, which provides FREE doses.

 

However, I think there's little to no credible evidence (outside of claims made by the Thai government) to show how effective the Sinovac/AZ regimen is compared to alternatives like mixed AZ/mRNA or two doses of mRNA vaccines like Pfizer or Moderna, which have very high rates of effectiveness in credible studies.

 

For whatever reasons, credible or not, a lot of Thais seem to be fearful of the Sinovac vaccine. And not just because it seems to be less effective than its mRNA peers. I'm not sure comments like those in the OP article here are going to change the minds of Thais who have those preconceptions about the Sinovac vaccine.

Thank you for your comment but at 77 and an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic, I can assure you I have no concerns or fear at all. In Cambodia it is either Sinovac or Sinopharm and, on advice from my Khmer doctor, Sinovac was recommended. I have now been vaccinated with 2 jabs of Sinovac and possess my Covid-19 Vaccination Card.
