PHUKET: Hundreds lined the street on the south side of Phuket Town yesterday (Sept 27) as two high-ranking police officers made merit by handing out ‘Survival Bags’ of food and other household necessities to those suffering harsh financial hardship under the ongoing economic crisis.

The long queue formed along Lim Sui Ju Rd, where 400 of the Survival Bags were handed out in front of the ‘Somtam’ variety entertainment venue.

Present to oversee the distribution of the much-needed essentials were the benefactors, Pol Maj Gen Suriya Rattanaphan, who was making merit for his 44th birthday, along with Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander Maj Gen Arayapan Pukbuakhao and Maj Gen Arayapan’s wife.

But but but the Sandbox scheme was the salvation of Phuket....

what happened to the cascade of trillions of dosh thrown around by abundant tourists?

I appreciate the donation but ....

The funding for such "gifts" as the Prayut regime likes to call its random generosity to the Thai people should not come from the RTP.

Are there not ministries that should be funded vis a vis the Parliament approved budget process that would have the authority to ensure equitable and timely distribution of aid funds to the Thai people?

The alternative would indicate that the RTP has a slush fund of unauthorized legal budget, eg., from undisclosed sources of revenue to make what is in effect illegal expenditures for the sake of publicity.

I recall that the military admitted ( by Prayut?) that it has a slush fund for "off the books" discretionary spending. The military admitted to the Parliament that it has its own 'private' sources to acquire unbudgeted funds. Parliament required the military to reveal its private revenue sources but to date I don't believe it has.

So it would be consistent that the RTP can do the same.

Reminds me of the largesse coming from organized crime Dons of US history. They would donate money to facilitate services to the locals when government couldn't or wouldn't provide.

Shame on Thailand for allowing Tourists onto the Island, yet many of the Locals go Hungry, because the Money the Tourists spend is not filtering down to those that really need it.

Did they sell a confiscated car to fund the donations?
