Thailand reports 9,351 new COVID-19 cases, 10,098 recoveries and 56 deaths

Thailand on Sunday (Oct 24) reported 9,351 new COVID-19 cases, 10,098 recoveries and 56 deaths.

 

Of the new cases 139 were discovered in prisons.

 

Sunday's cases brings the total number of cases in Thailand to 1.85 million since the start of the pandemic and 1.82 million cases since April 1 - the start of the so-called 'third wave' of infections.

 

To date, 1.73 million people have recovered, while the total death toll stands at 18,661.

 

As of Friday, Thailand had administered approximately 69.9 million vaccine doses, with around 38.7 million having received one vaccine dose, 28 million two doses and 2.1 million receiving a third vaccine dose.

 

On Saturday, Zuellig Pharma (ZP) Therapeutics Company announced that the first batch of Moderna vaccines will arrive in Thailand on November 5.

 

The company also reconfirmed that at total of 1.9 million doses of the Moderna vaccine will be arriving in Thailand in the fourth quarter of this year, while the remaining 6.8 million doses, ordered by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, will be delivered before the end of March next year.

Well the infection numbers seem to be in a sort of holding pattern now around the 11-14K obviously including ATK. As always though the varacity of these numbers lies with the amount of testing being done.

13.500 new cases it looks these cases are less severe and that is good. A lot of vaccinated people will be less sick, although 13.500 is still high for reopening for tourists as schools, surely in the red and dark red areas

As I posted yesterday, here are the confirmed figures for Prachuap Khiri Khan.

 

On Saturday, the number of new cases rose further still, jumping to 445 confirmed new cases – the most number confirmed cases in two months.

The sudden spike in cases is largely due to the discovery of several COVID-19 clusters at factories and fruit processing plants, workers camps and dormitories, predominately in the Pranburi area, which reported 362 cases alone on Saturday.

The continued surge in cases on Saturday meant that Prachuap Khiri Khan was among the top 10 provinces reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases.

Health officials on Saturday (Oct 23) reported 445 new COVID-19 cases, 50 were found in Hua Hin and of those, 31 cases were found in either Hua Hin or Nong Khae districts.

Elsewhere in the province, 362 cases were found in Pranburi, 15 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 9 cases in Kuiburi, zero cases found in Thap Sakae, 3 cases in Bang Saphan, zero cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 6 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new deaths were reported.and no death was reported today,

Sounds like the are trying to take credit for it, i.e. that the government purchased the Moderna vaccines, not the private hospital consortiums, even if the government did order some, none of which I know of, you shouldn't take credit for the lot, but then again things are done differently in Thailand.

Covid-19 in prison: outbreaks from overcrowding now subsiding

 

The Thai prison system has suffered from an overcrowding problem for years, but the Covid-19 pandemic has starkly illustrated the dangers of it. In prisons, there have been 72,359 Covid-19 infections, making them more infected than any single province except Bangkok (1st) and its neighbours Samut Prakan (2nd) and Samut Sakhon (4th) and Chon Buri (3rd).

 

Thailand has the 6th largest prison population in the world and the highest incarceration rate of females in the world.

Latest data from the worldometer ranking table for deaths/million of population over the past 7 days shows Thailand at 69th in the world, same as yesterday and 22 places below the UK. Same table shows Thailand 13th in Asia, one place below the Philippines. 

 

The number of deaths over the past week remains at 7 deaths/million of population, down 17% over the 7 day period, with the number of official infections also falling 6%.

These trends along with the drop in numbers of people in a serious condition and on ventilators are all positive signs that the vaccination programme is having a positive effect throughout the country. 

Around 40% of the population overall now been fully vaccinated, with higher numbers in some of the targeted tourist resorts in preparation for next months quarantine free opening.

I did find the John Campbell vid which looked at Russia very interesting. Seems some are saying both the infection figures and the death figures are bogus. China we all know that was a complete cover up so why not here? Just positing a question.

With a Prison population of about 320,000 people, there was always going to be a massive number who tested positive.

And the Death / Numbers rate for the Prisons is ?????.

I have not read of one single report on this matter  !

I think there was a large onus placed upon this Green Chireeta Herbal stuff to reduce the numbers, but with 72,359 Infection reported, ( roughly 25 % ) of all the total population locked up, that is an appalling number, and the herbal medication should be immediately withdrawn from use.

Agreed, of course it does, testing means everything and without adequate testing you get false figures, its really as simple as that. I find it amazing that some still insist on comparing the covid situation in Thailand with the UK, based on that one metric alone. However there are other metrics which also show the two countries could not be further apart.

 

Excess deaths: Thailand is currently running at multiple thousands in this wave. The UK is running in the low hundreds. This is the true and hidden cost of the pandemic. The UK is capturing most of these deaths shown by the low numbers in excess while Thailand has had a surge of deaths in the last 3 months.

 

Hospitalizations: Thailand currently has over 43,389 in a real hospital being treated, still a very high burden for the health system. The UK has just 8,170

 

Covid mortality classification: We know exactly what the classification is for capturing a covid death in the UK. We have absolutely no idea what it is for Thailand as its never officially been announced.

I'm afraid rational statements like this can not or will not be accepted by some on this forum. Of course you are absoloutly correct. It's been this way from the beginning. "Oh! Look how good Thailand is going". Govt. "Ok we're getting away with it. Let's keep going". It's been a cover up from the very beginning.

For the past 18 months you and other members on this forum have been recording, trending, charting and dissecting every available piece of data and at one point it was mentioned that the death numbers were the critical piece of information as they were less likely to be false. 
 

Also mentioned that the infection numbers were important as they showed the trends. 
 

Now, the numbers are dropping noticeably and the country is ready to open up, it’s all been a lie and a “cover up” and we should not believe  them as it doesnt suit the now conspiracy theorists.

Actually we have been questioning the lack of of transpancy. Do you not find it interesting that testing numbers suddenly became a percentage. Fully recovered became recovered. ATK numbers not included. Testing levels have always been abismal. One doesn't have to be a cynic to see there something on the nose.

Since the beginning of the pandemic Thailand is 130 overall in deaths per million of population with 268 per million and 191st from the top and only 13 from the bottom for the most deaths in the past 7 days. 

 

Where you come up with them being 65th is hard to explain since they are actually 134th over all in the weekly death change, which actually isn't bad in that respect it is just that they are near the top in all other categories.

A 39.3 % overall of the population vaccinated. Can they vaccinate 30.7% more in the next 68 days to hit the 70% goal, in order to do so they would need to vaccinate over 21+ million of the 37+million who already have a first jab. Is it doable, possible and I will hope they can.
