61 people arrested after police raid bar on Sukhumvit Soi 23

What would happen if they were all tourist? If they sent pictures back to their home country from jail. Would more tourist come?

There are some who like to live life on the edge. Come to Thailand and run the risk of arrest if having a beer, see the inside of a Thai police cell with dozens of other thirsty folk, see first hand the Thai courts in action. Who could ask for more. Not something you experience in most countries - a Uniquely Thai Experience.

with alcohol having the same status as drugs a lot of people will be criminalized, a lot of real criminals will get rich and the brown shirts get even more corrupt.

I lived in Soi 23 for a while to me its Sukhumvit, unless there is a soi 23 around Thonglor

Well you never knew your address then and there is no area called Sukhumvit.

It’s only used to describe a general area and indicates you live off Sukhumvit Road.

Yes but no alcohol allowed at present ????

What is allowed and what is happening can be very different.

Should put this pictures at Suvarnabuhmi to welcome tourists from next week.

I walked yesterday to Soi 4. First large bars on the left are renovating, re-doing the entrance etc. A few other bars were also cleaning up. Do they expect something to happen soon?

Better not do a little dance at the airport when loved ones arrive or you will be rugby tackled to the floor.

You missed out the kicks to the head from the 6 nice locals .

The courts are going to be busy with all these bars getting raided

Sorry but I have spotted a typo: you mean "ready" no?

Obviously these places are following the steps of the authorities who have started rehearsing and staged a mock arrival of tourists landing at the airport to test the staff's capabilities on the ground

Yep

This is the general rule.

Kindly note that this doesn't apply to Kiwis... easily recognisable by their passport cover

This is not a public health safety issue.  It’s a you did not pay off the right people issue.  Very simple.

Was in the process of typing when you did a better job of clearing this up. Kazy Kozy has been open for a while, though I personall'grand Reopening" to raidit. y never visited there during the lockdown.

Odd then that they wait until a week before the "Grand Reopening of Thailand" to raid it. Someone get passsed over for promotion perhaps?

Out of interest - what is the official fine for customers and operator?

Why would they need to do that? There is a functionning ATM inside Thonglor station

What the fake puritans do not understand, is one iota about human nature. People just want to have fun. You cannot just erase fun. This will continue to happen. The more you repress, the greater the desire becomes.

Stop the nonsense already. At least allow drinking in restaurants and hotels. Enough already. This is not supposed to be the CCP, or North Korea.

Away with the retrograde, regressive, failed leaders. Let's bring in some real talent and leadership. Get the nation moving forward for a change. The dinosaurs are getting so tired!

Usually Thai cops have Thai citizenship.  This is their hometurf.

Is he praying?

Please don't let the police come and take me away, please.

Like it or not, the only way to attract tourists is to open up the country, which, apart from parks and tourist adventure zones and malls, includes all entertainment centres, bars and restaurants - with no restrictions.

It's the locals who are spreading the virus. It's laughable to think that vaccinated visitors would be the key source of Covid infections instead of the Thai population who have not yet reached herd immunity.

But that's the Thai mentality - it's never their fault, always blame non-Thais.

Correct. They are Sukhumvit 21 and 23. It is not Thong Lor. this soi is Sukhumvit 55. The article says it was the Thong Lor police that made the raid

Yes indeed, this will definitely encourage more tourists to come to Thailand?? Have a drink and go to jail! LOL

Looks familiar.  Crazy kind of place.  But is Soi 23 Thonglor?

If I remember correctly Soi 23 is Soi Cowboy.....

Just the kind of publicity that Thailand doesn’t need as it exposes their draconian alcohol laws. Dubai has far stricter anti alcohol laws but you never see headlines about “Bars” being raided????????????

There is no bar mentioned. The picture could be a stock picture unrelated to the claimed offence. This whole story could simply be a warning from the Thonglor police. There is no proof that the claimed incident actually happened.

Yes, that'll be it. The photo and video posted were virtual creations. Thanks, for a minute I though it was CH.

Relax, tourists will stand for anything the Thai authorities throw at them - all worth it to experience "Thainess". I experienced "Thainess" at Soi Phluan Phlu once when I was late by one day for 90 day report. They sent me round to the cell area to pay the fine. There was an officer at the next desk fiddling with a pair of leg irons. I was on a priority work permit - I suspect some expats experiencing that would have phoned their wife and told them to get the kids out of school and meet me at the airport, we're leaving.

Yeah, but you have to wait for it to cool down before you can use it.

It is Thonglor Police district.

Thong Lor ????????????

Now what could have initiated this?

Rival Police owned bars on Cowboy not being open I would imagine.

Cops being paid off but rivalries to the fore.
