Phuket all systems go for reopening: The airport can handle 3,000 passengers a day

The governor of Phuket province in the south of Thailand struck an optimistic note ahead of the grand reopening of Thailand today Monday November 1st.

 

Narong Wunsew said they would be using all the experience from running the Phuket Sandbox - they were ready for anything. 

 

That included all health matters with plenty of beds and medicines. He expressed confidence in his medical staff in comments to Thai online media.

 

The buoyancy was repeated by his deputy Pichet Pannapong who had been to the Phuket International Airport and discovered they could handle 3,000 passengers a day.

 

He said that arrivals would only need to spend a short time at the airport, they had the procedure fine tuned.

 

Those first off the plane would only be spending 30 minutes in document checks and tests.

 

This could be up to an hour for those last off the plane but certainly no more than that before Thailand was their oyster.

 

He thought there would be about 200 people on each flight from abroad.

 

If the capacity of the airport was exceeded then tests could be carried out at hotels, he noted.

 

Deputy director at PIA Sunthorn Sakdasawit said that eight flights would arrive from outside Thailand on Monday and six would have passengers on them.

 

He expected 1,166 people.

 

Right now eight airlines are flying in with 15 expected to operate flights by the end of the week. 

 

In addition 67 domestic flight arrivals were expected today.

So, if the 'capacity' exceeds expectations and the tests can be conducted at the hotels - why in the name of heaven, can't everyone avoid unnecessary waiting at the airport and get tested at the hotel as well?

What does it matter?

It's just bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake!

You cannot staff any hotel with qualified and licensed staff to conduct the test. Common sense.
