Three quarters of Thais worried about ending the booze ban - even in restaurants, poll suggests

A Bangkok poll asked Thais about their hopes as the country started the process of reopening today, November 1st.

 

They clearly indicated that one thing was worrying them - allowing pubs to reopen and even allowing drinking in restaurants.

 

It appears that Thailand's once thriving entertainment sector and nightlife is now seen as the main threat of worsening the pandemic before the reopening gets fully off the ground.

 

Asked about pubs and bars reopening by the start of December 72% said they were. Only 28% were not.

 

Questioned about allowing alcohol to be served in four pilot provinces' restaurants 62.4% said they were worried about that. 

 

66.5% were worried about letting people in who were double dosed from safe countries.

 

Stopping the curfew was not a great concern. Only 26.4% polled were concerned about it ending in all but seven risky areas.

 

Overall 72% expressed worry about the reopening today. The rest were less concerned.

 

46.3% felt the situation would gradually improve after reopening, 26.2% thought there would be no difference and 27.5% said it would only make matters worse for Thailand.

 

Asked about their hopes for reopening day:

 

51.1 cited improvements in the economy

 

43.4% hoped for improvements in the restaurant trade

 

42.7% hoped it would create employment

 

39.9% thought it would improve the tourism sector

 

37.5% hoped there would be no new infections and clusters as a result

 

and

 

20.2% expressed confidence in Thailand attracting investors.

 

1,173 people were asked their opinions.

As usual a meaningless report on surveys as it does not quote the actual survey questions verbatim or indicate the demographics!

We do not know what they were actually asked. 

It's like the age old "have you stopped beating your wife" question "answer yes or no"!

On that note, there happens to be a "naughty bar" in a nearby town, with Christmas lights and blacked out windows. I thought it was closed. But the other day, I saw two smiling Thai men come out of it.

So , the majority of Thais prefer to live in a locked down country without any foreign interference , and without entertainment or alcohol consumption ? I doubt that .

Where in Bangkok did did they make this poll ?

What a crock of poo this survey is. If I were a betting man, which I am not, as it's illegal here. I would bet the wife will be back tonight intoxicated, after playing cards as she has been for the last 2 nights. Not that she gambles of course. playing for the honour.

 

Can anyone tell me if any of those surveyed have bought any alcohol over the past year, or since the bars and restaurants have been precluded from selling it openly? I say openly, as where I live, it's normally decanted into jugs. That's beer and whiskey, to be supplied by the venue, or brought in by yourself with a corkage fee.

 

I suggest the officer's mess in the Army barracks where a certain person is still resident, serves alcohol in their bar.

Are you worried about drinking/immigrants/vaccination/economy/family/gas prices/alians/giant spiders/etc./etc?

You will get a similar distribution.

In order to stop the protests this extremely toxic government has whipped the public into a state of fear and frenzy. They totally bought into it.

Astonishing madness. I left Thailand last week. I refuse to deal with the stupidity anymore. Not sure if we are coming back. 

 

The confused, muddled, inconsistent and highly selective, idiotic policies continue to bring Thailand to its knees. The country would benefit hugely, if only there were some adults making decisions, and not fearful children, with a puritanical bent. 

 

Beer does not cause Covid!

Stupidity, Prayuth and Anutin's highly selective policies do. 

 

Woe is Thailand.
