Mask Exemption.

I think one of the best things you could do is consult with a  Doctor once you arrive in Thailand.

Present your ‘overseas’ medical letters and ask the Doctor to write a similar exemption and stamp it from the local hospital - Some Dr’s may be happy to do this, others may not.

This ‘should’ at least give you something to carry around so that any establishments wishing to prevent you from entry or service can be given this letter. Also such a letter helps if the Police wish to stop you.

Of course, this will not stop other sanctimonious mask police from calling you out, but any such hassle could easily be stopped with a ‘card’ in both Thai and English with the information that you are medically exempt.

Other options - Wear a ‘mask with a big slit in it’.... (a fake mask).

Alternatively wear a ‘face shield’ - the whole purpose of masks is to act a barrier preventing the ‘expulsion of water vapour from your respiratory system’....   face shields do this.

That said - I read an article whereby some businesses in Thailand (Air Asia included) are banning the masks with ‘vents’ - this kind of contradicts the reasons masks are required - the barrier rather than the filter.

IMO you have that reversed if I read it as intended. Masks are considered more effective in limiting airbourne dispersal from an individual rather than inhaling a virus. Vented masks negate that.

Nope... the masks do not do a great deal to protect the ‘wearer’ they are designed to protect everyone else if the wearer is carrying a respiratory virus.

You wont be allowed to get on plane in the first place and there is no getting around mask mandates in public places in Thailand. You can however go mask-less when eating and drinking in a restaurant or when swimming.  Best of luck.

It is unfortunate that people who have legitimate medical exemptions from mask wearing like yourself have to bear the stigma created by people who do NOT have legitimate reasons but don't wear them because they are just stubborn, stupid, or irresponsible. If I were in your position, I'd try the face shield, with a loose fitting mask. That should eliminate most people misjudging you.

Let me get this right.....

Wearing a light, thin, loose fitting mask will be a serious danger to your life / health.........but you can travel, fly and walk around in public in a sub tropical, extremely hot and humid

county with some of the worst air pollution in the world?

And, if you do catch covid or even the common cold, from not wearing a mask, that will cause much more breathing problems for you and be more dangerous for you life than a thin mask.....also the potential to pass covid onto other people....

Don't you think it might be better to study for a year where you are now than to put your life and others at risk as you can't wear a mask?

Expand

Why are you questioning the person with the medical mask exemption? Question the hospital and doctors who gave her the exemption. Maybe they know something about her condition that you don’t know.
As she stated…”…medically exempt, as instructed by my local hospital and respitory nurse/ASD specialist.”

So perhaps you should not be trying to “outdoctor” her medical care specialists and doctors.
Who are you to suggest to her that maybe she should not travel to Thailand? She’s coming to Thailand for study.
How is she risking anyone’s life?  If she already had Covid and recovered, then she has immunity even much better than being vaccinated. If she’s vaccinated, then great.  If others are vaccinated and/or wearing masks, then she is no threat to them.  And if she is not elderly with co-morbidities than the odds of her dying crossing a Thailand street are probably higher than of dying of Covid.

I know a number of people who had Covid and recovered. Most of them said it was a like a mild flu, and then they recovered with no problem.

.

Well said.....

Sadly there are many people who think because they believe what "experts"  and governments say, it must be true.

I think that is exactly what I said. A vented mask does not inhibit exhaled viral dispersal by an infected person. Therefore not approved.

If you can't wear a mask due to respiratory problems, wouldn't there be a high chance that you die if you catch Covid? So you shouldn't go outside anyway because you might catch Covid and die, don't need to wear a mask at home. But I also don't see a reason to come to Thailand just to stay at home all the time, why don't you just stay where you are?

I've had covid, wasn't a big deal, like a common cold with no sense of taste, I'm also vaccinated to help any future incidents as, viruses happen. Appreciate your concern though ????

You do not have it straight, but thank you for your perspective.

Get your facts right.

Massive thank you to the people who promote inclusion on this page.

This has been a wonderful display of both the kindness in humanity and how even if you do not understand someone's situation you do not need to judge.

And

How ugly the fearful and misunderstanding are.

Thailand is now all set! And I can't wait to start a new adneture, now I I have all the information.

This information genuinely helped me.

It's not work out.

You can't walk around without a mask these days.

Probably just have to move back home.  I can imagine the grief you'll get.

Trying to explain why you cant wear a mask every minute would be awful.

Why don't you just go to some clinic and get "I can wear a mask" note for 200 baht.

This will overide the other clinics " I can't wear a mask" note.

Then your good to go.
