Pol Lt Surachet Chotreuangnapha of the Muang Nakhon Sri Thammarat police said he was called to a shooting incident at a two story house in Pak Nakhon sub-district of the southern Thailand province on Tuesday night, reported Daily News.

In an upstairs bedroom they found a two year old girl dead in a pool of blood. She had been shot in the right eye with the bullet exiting at the nape of the neck.

Also shot in the head was an unnamed 31 year old man, the little girl's father. He was rushed to hospital and is in a coma in critical condition with a bullet lodged in his brain.

Forensics were at the scene and had taken gunshot residue tests from the hands of both the father and wife who were present.

There was evidence of several shots having been fired and a 9 mm gun was retrieved.

The wife and mother told investigators that her husband had invited relatives over for a birthday party and they were all drinking.

At one point their two year old daughter had asked her father for a mobile phone to look at before she went to sleep but he couldn't locate it.

The wife criticized him for caring only about drinking and not their child and an argument ensued.

He followed her up the stairs and took aim at her in a second floor bedroom.

Instead of hitting her he hit their daughter then turned the gun on himself, she said.

Investigations continue into other details of the tragic case.

I don't think I've ever read a sadder story on this site. .....

Just imagine how it would feel waking up to that situation .

In hospital with a bullet in the brain and you killed your child and with a hangover .

Laying there in a Government ICU hospital unit and asking "What happened last night"

Ask the many every year in US. Poor, well meaning fools who think having a gun will "keep their family safe". Their child killed playing with it.

Too bad this guy just didn't off himself instead.

First, it´s a silly discussion. A 2 year old should not be given a phone. They should be read and talked to before sleeping, by caring and responsible parents.

Second, another moron drinking instead of taking care of his family.

Third, another fragile ego that can´t take criticism. The always afraid male for loosing face in front of friends and family.

Let´s face it. The father had no face from start! Actually the whole head together with the brain was lost at childhood. That´s why he remain at that stage in his adult life as well.

Let´s hope he will be given the grace of drinking out of a straw for the rest of his life, in an infant stage. Live for many years and suffer for what he has done. Death or coma is just too easy for this kind of guys.

And where did it say the child was playing with a gun?

So what are you talking about then?

Only police, security forces and military should be allowed to have guns

He didn't say this child was playing with a gun, he referenced the cases in the US where this happens.

And all those who are in favor of the "War on Drugs" give alcohol a pass.

"Oh - but it is Legal " !!!

May be , after all , they are right to ban alcohol . Should be banned for Thais .

Would be good to ban guns , too .

But they want to have guns in the case somebody makes them lose their face ...

Anyway , most private guns are illegal I think .

No way to ban them as long as somebody makes money selling or fabricating them .

Should have taken the scenic route... why rush?

They are banned, actually. Although, of course, that makes no difference and they are on sale and used anyway.

stupid idiot ......  it all occurred because the a_rsehole father couldn't handle his booze.  If he was any sort of a man he would have told the missus to close her trap and laughed it off .... then gone up with the baby for 10 minutes to put her to sleep. Then come back down and enjoy the party.

500-800 deaths per year from mishaps alone. Hunting accidents, misfires, cleaning loaded weapons.

The price of "freedom" they say

Who's to say he did not deliberately shoot the baby just to hurt the woman who insulted his ego.

No, hope he will live and carry the pain for the rest of his life.
