I think the article is about the production of porn by Thais within the country.

I love Thai culture!

I've been to many Thai cultural sites in a few different Thai cities.

Some of my favorites are Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, and Patpong in Bangkok.

Walking Street, Soi Bhukaew, Soi 6, LK Metro, and other places in Pataya.

Bangla Road in Phuket.

All fine places that exhibit Thai culture and are known world wide.

And thank goodness there is no "pornography" going on there. Just imagine how the culture minister would reel if he learned about that!

Besides, with a family name like "Khunpleum" I am not sure I'd necessarily want to be all too vocal about "the good culture" of Thailand.

There are few hundred thai females and dozens of couples are doing it on OnlyFans, countless on Chaturbate and many other webcam sites. Thai models are on OnlyFans as well, not only those poor bar girls [aka LBFM] and students, but legitimate models. Also, there are dedicated webcam sites with only thais. Also, there are AV studios in Bangkok and Pattaya working with 4K videos for studios in US. Also such a giant of porn as Evilangel sends its crews to shoot porn here...

What culture?

Many thai students abroad are doing sake-sake or turning into big-bucks porn starlets.
Isn't it too freaking late to lament about so-called Thai culture?

There are few industries that somehow many tech-savvy foreigners bump into while staying in Siam. I had affiliate websites, but some friends run video post-production business. It really doesn't matter whats on the roll. Just cut and re-arrange clips with birds or crocodiles or flowers at Loy Kratong ceremony.

Wrong. All societies need a degree of discipline in order to function properly. Self-indulgence is decadence and only leads to the degeneration of values and behavior. Self-indulgence in the name of 'freedom' is misguided and dangerous.

My one liner was a statement of philosophical position. We obviously disagree on a binary basis but you are right about self indulgence for it's own sake being of little or no value to an individual or a society.  and also that self indulgence and decadence is generally not conducive to attaining higher goals in life.

I'm not discussing porn or the article specifically - I am saying that everybody should be free to make their own choices provided their choices do not cause physical harm to another person's life or property.

That means an individual is free to make reckless and self indulgent decisions and suffer the consequences of their narcissism at their peril. Just as others should be free to reap the benefits of their sound decisions.

Taking away freedom (and therefore choice) was practiced in many places in the 20th century  - didn't work out too well in Germany, Soviet Union, Maoist China, Pot's Cambodia. Cuba, and a host of African States.

Culture and Freedom can and probably should be symbiotic, but restricting freedom in the name of culture is fundamentally wrong, because in that sense "culture" can be more accurately  described as collectivism.

I'm not American but I think their Constitution is one of the greatest pieces of political prose ever written to try and prevent government tyrannical overreach and encroachment on personal freedom.

"Culture is more important than personal freedom" - This is deeply worrying - the hallmark of a despotic regime.

Trying to define culture is a very dangerous thing to do.

Culture is pretty much indefinable and it isn't static, so stemements like this are justt used to justify government actions without resorting to reasoned argument.

Porn is just there.  It's not culture, in a way it's stupid.  It's a watch, over, keep going.

I don't see people walking down the street with porn blaring on their phones speakers going "OOOOH  YEAH BABY OHHHH YEAH, OH GIVE IT TO ME OOOOH YEAAAAHH".

You haven't stood next to those little kiosks where they "supervise" the traffic lights then?

This government has eroded the personal freedoms of its citizens since the first day of it's illegitimate takeover as all authoritarian dictatorships do, so we shouldn't really be surprised by the latest statement from the Muppets.

Where do you witness everyday personal freedoms being infringed upon?

You'll be reminded that, historically, different will not be tolerated by those highly sophisticated and civilised cultures. ????

Totally agree.

Also, I didn't know there was a minister of culture, it's so devoid. There's no art, the 'songs' sound the same, no museums to speak of. The culture is limited to food, temples and sex.

I suppose porn was threatening the sex industry, too many do-it-yourselfers weren't supporting that economy????

Right, that line can be used across the board to prevent any kind of reform. Sounds like he was taking notes from the CCP

However it does sound not good , he is actually right .

Personal freedom is that correct if i want to kill all non believers ( in relation to terrorist acts around the world ) ? Is it personal freedom above culture to do anything you want to do ? IMHO no , it isn't . In some countries the culture is not liked by me , but then i can't go there since it is outside my personal freedom/believe . He is right , that the culture is what makes a country , well beyond the personal freedom . You might like it or not , since that is personal freedom , but the culture in a country/region will always win ( until the culture changes , since that does happen over time ) .

When temples appear to be more places of business than of worship, zoos, crocodile farms and snake farms care little for the welfare of the animals they display and schools seem to exist to enrich their owners rather than the minds of their students, I wonder what part of Thai culture the Minister thinks is worthy of protection?

Having Mia noi's, harems, concubines and the list goes on

If an individual makes reckless decisions then they shouldn't expect the people that made the right choices to take care of them

GREAT desicion of thai legislators. One of the laws i really like in thailand is that porn is illegal, production of porn is illegal, and distribution of porn is illegal.

it should remain this way.

the west lost it completely with this sick porn industry. with the click of a button any child

can watch the most horrific and hardest porn movies, all free and available for all .

amazing and disgusting, and all powered by the USA / EU capitalistic system, with huge investments

in brands and productions.

Total nonnsense. Thailand appears to support the sex industry at some higher levels? Who profits from all of it? Porn happens when a society is highly repressed. It is not about deviance. It is about mankind's love of sex, when faced with oppression.
